Yesterday was a special reminder of the gift of community and the many blessings God provides through the kindness of others. We’re so grateful for the volunteers pictured here, who helped make a Memorial Day cookout possible for our residents with joyful hearts and plenty of smiles. ☀️🍔

The beauty of spring has a way of brightening even the simplest moments 🌼

This week, one of our wonderful volunteers brought in fresh flowers from her own garden to share in the Dining Center — a small act of kindness that brought so much joy and reflected God’s love in such a meaningful way.

We are so grateful for volunteers like Julie and Faith, and for all those who go above and beyond to serve the people in our community with compassion, care, and love. Your generosity helps make City Mission feel welcoming, hopeful, and full of life each day. 💙

“Thank you for loving people that you don't even know. You have no idea how much it means to me that you have invested in me.”

In this video, Lance shares his story and the impact that friends like you have had on his life.

When Lance first came to City Mission, he was searching for lasting change. Here, he found people who encouraged him to stay, helped him learn to trust again, and reminded him that his life still had value and purpose. Along the way, his faith grew stronger, and he began reconnecting with God in a deeper way.

Today, Lance is preparing to graduate from our Bridges to Freedom program and now serves as a Downtown Ambassador, giving back to the same community that helped him along the way.

Because of the generosity of friends like you, today was filled with joy, community, and reminders of God’s love. 🌸☀️🍦

Staff, residents, and friends of City Mission gathered in our courtyard for a Spring Festival filled with games, conversation, ice cream, and time together. One special part of the afternoon was our flower bar, where people were able to create their own bouquets — a simple but meaningful reminder of beauty, care, and encouragement. 💐

We’re also thankful to Cold School Ice Cream Bus for joining us and serving ice cream during the event!

Moments like these may seem simple, but they help create connection, belonging, and hope each day. Thank you for helping make opportunities like this possible and for being part of the ways God is transforming lives throughout our community. 💙

🎉 Last week, we celebrated an incredible milestone!

For more than two years, Selina has worked diligently to complete the Department of Labor’s Cook Apprenticeship Program—balancing college coursework at SUNY Schenectady, learning culinary math and budgeting, and completing more than 4,000 hours of hands-on training.

Selina shared, “I could never have imagined I would take college courses in culinary arts. Every class has given me more perspective about who I am.”

Last week, Selina received her Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion! From once being a student in our Bridges to Freedom program to now serving as Director of Dining Services at City Mission, her journey is a powerful reminder of what hope, hard work, and opportunity can accomplish.
