Washington Filmworks (WF) is the private 501(c)(6) non-profit organization that manages the Motion Picture Competitiveness Program as well as a variety of resources for the creative industries in Washington State.

Washington Filmworks is excited to announce the projects conditionally approved by our Board of Directors in Season 7 of the Small Budget Production Initiative (SBPI).

The SBPI is designed to support emerging Washington State filmmakers by offering funding assistance for motion picture projects with budgets between $20,000 – $1M. Projects seeking an early stage funding commitment can apply during application windows throughout the year, and fully funded projects can apply at any time. The next application window will open February 2027.

📣 The application window for the Washington Filmworks Above the Line Education Forum, an online business of film skills program for early to mid-career producers and directors from historically underrepresented communities, will be open November 6-16!

🎬 Over the course of 15 weeks, a cohort of up to 25 Washington filmmakers working in narrative or documentary formats will learn film business skills through online sessions with industry professionals. Program participants receive scholarship support.

Five Washington State filmmakers have been selected for the Washington Filmworks Above the Line Mentorship. Graduates of the Above the Line Education Forum, these narrative and documentary filmmakers will take part in a six month mentorship, working with both in-state and out-of-state film professionals aimed at moving their projects into production.

"This mentorship program is really about not just how to make an engaging film, but how to make a sustainable career that you can live off of," said past participant Georgia Krause. "That you can come to Washington and be a filmmaker and that can be your job. I think that's a really amazing goal to pursue and I'm really proud to be a part of Washington Filmworks as they make steps to make that happen."

After an overwhelming number of incredible applications, Washington Filmworks is proud to announce eight new Equity Committee members from across the state.

The Equity Committee serves as an advisory board to the Washington Filmworks Board of Directors, providing film industry insight and input from historically underrepresented communities in order to foster diversity, equity and inclusion within the organization and the statewide film industry.

New members represent various roles in Washington's film industry including above-the-line talent, below-the-line crew, production resource businesses, and higher education.
