Today is National First Responder day. We would like to just take a moment to recongize the collaberative effort of all first responders that answer the call.

Ever wonder what we are up too, now that even had a lot of moisture here in Utah County.

Over the last week Utah has seen an unprecedented amount of moisture come into the state. High elevations saw snow, while lower levels received some much-needed rain. Utah’s wildfire season has slowed down drastically. Most wildland crews are shutting down and cleaning up.

Not the Utah County Fire Department. Just because there is snow and rain here, they are still helping other states with their wildfire issues. Some people might find it interesting to know that UCFD has an engine in California right now, and about to do their first crew swap. This basically means the firefighters that are on the engine now will trade with a new fresh crew. The new crew will be assigned to So Ops and placed where they are needed in South California. They will be there for 14 days with the potential to trade with a 3rd fresh crew after 14 days if needed. UCFD will continue this if the need is there. We do not slow down because the weather changes in Utah, we slow down when the request for assist stop coming.

Please keep in mind these crews leave their families and loved ones to help other states when needed. They do it for the love of the job and the ability to offer help, support and assistance when call.

All of us here at the Utah County Fire Department appreciate the support given to continue doing our jobs, even when the threat of wildfire’s has stopped here.

Update — Utah Co.: The fire remains estimated at 45 acres with no growth overnight and is now 60% contained. Crews worked along the perimeter overnight and continue suppression efforts this morning.

There are no closures or impacts to infrastructure. Please avoid the area and be mindful of personnel and equipment along the Nebo Loop.

The fire is human-caused; the specific cause remains under investigation. Local, state and federal resources are supporting the incident.

The has been renamed the after nearby Peteetneet Creek, which is named for Timpanogos Ute Leader Chief Peteetneet.

The fire has been GPS mapped at 45 acres and remains 0% contained. It is burning in brush and rough terrain.

Crews made good progress this evening, with additional ground and air resources assigned tomorrow. The cause remains under investigation.

Please avoid the area and allow firefighters room to work safely.

There is a fire on the foothills south of Payson. Crews are making great headway in fighting it. Please avoid the area so the crews can get it out.

New 🔥 Start: Utah Co. . Located near Nebo Loop Road & estimated at 6–10 acres. Structures are threatened. Ground & air resources are on scene. Please avoid the area and allow firefighters room to work for public & firefighter safety.

Update:

The Big Mountain Fire has grown to 166 acres. Crews have worked to stop progression of the fire and scattered storms are moving through the area.

Location: Utah County, west of Tunnel Road, approximately 5 miles southwest of Elberta.

Update — Utah Co. The fire is estimated at 2 acres. Smokejumpers arrived this evening and began constructing containment line around the fire’s perimeter. Crews will remain on scene overnight to monitor the fire, secure the perimeter and prevent any spread or reignition.

To honor the fallen helicopter crew fighting the Widemouth 2 Fire near Richfield, Utah law enforcement and fire departments will be escorting our fallen heroes.

Please expect slow downs on I-70 westbound to I-15 northbound from Cove Fort to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Taylorsville. Expect delays in these areas for the next few hours.

Here is an update on a few deployments of resources that we have sent over the past few days.
We have a handcrew leaving today, 07/28/26, to help with the Widemouth 2 fire in central Utah.
We also have a brush truck in Oregon assisting with fire efforts in that state.
We also have one of our team in Boise assisting with fire efforts as a Task Force Leader trainee.
This fire season continues to be a busy one for all of us here at the Utah County Fire Department both at home and abroad.
