There is a profound shift happening in education right now, and it's something we have championed from day one: relationship-building must always precede effective learning.

If a young person feels disconnected, misunderstood, or unseen, pushing them to simply focus on a test score is an impossible battle. At Innovation High School, we know that true academic success can only happen when a student feels emotionally and socially secure.

Curiosity simply cannot exist in a state of survival.

In crowded, chaotic educational environments, a student often spends the majority of their cognitive energy just trying not to stand out for the wrong reasons. When the fear of making a mistake or facing social humiliation is constantly running in the background, a young person’s brain will prioritize self-protection over deep learning every single time.

At Innovation High School, we don’t just treat emotional safety as a nice bonus or a poster on the wall. We treat it as the absolute biological prerequisite for education.

We know that our students cannot take massive intellectual or creative risks if they're terrified of failing. So, how does this belief show up in our daily life? It lives in the small, intentional moments.

It looks like a teacher pulling up a chair to sit shoulder-to-shoulder with a student, deconstructing a failed project with curiosity instead of criticism. Kick off your evening with over 300 local families for our massive community block party! Enjoy Trunk-or-Treating, live music, a petting zoo, carnival games, and shopping with local Spokane vendors. Your presence here acts as a direct fundraiser for our freshmen in the Class of 2030, giving them the exact support they need to thrive.

👻 Part 2: The Haunted House (6:00 PM – 9:00 PM)
As the sun sets, step into the incredible, immersive world our theatre students have designed. From spine-chilling sets to award-worthy acting, our youth have taken complete ownership of this live-action experience. Tomorrow evening, our entire campus completely transforms.

We aren't just hosting a couple of events, our students and staff have spent weeks building a massive, two-part community experience right here in Spokane, and we cannot wait to open the doors. If you are looking for the perfect way to kick off your weekend while actively supporting local education, this is exactly where you need to be.

Here is your guide to tomorrow night's dual-event kickoff:

🎃 The Harvest Festival (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM)

Our school grounds will be packed with a petting zoo, carnival games, trunk-or-treating, food, and an incredible vendor market. It's the perfect family-friendly block party. Best of all, simply by showing up and participating, you are helping us raise vital funds to support our freshmen in the Class of 2030.

🕸️ The Theatre Program's Haunted House (6:00 PM – 9:00 PM)

Ready to step inside? Our phenomenal theatre artists have completely taken over the building to design a live-action, immersive haunted house. Because they created multiple scare levels, you can choose exactly how terrifying you want your walkthrough to be.

Every $5 ticket sold goes directly to funding future sets, costumes, and creative pathways for these hardworking students. (The Haunted House will also be open on Saturday night!)

There is nothing more powerful than our students taking complete ownership of their craft. This weekend, our theatre students are transforming Innovation High School into a masterclass in set design, soundscaping, and live performance.

Join us for an unforgettable night of frights and fun at our annual Haunted House! Our incredibly talented theater program have stepped into the roles of directors, makeup artists, and actors to build a truly immersive, live-action experience for the Spokane community.

Not a fan of extreme jumpscares? We have you covered. Our students intentionally designed multiple scare levels, ensuring everyone from thrill-seekers to the easily spooked can enjoy the creative work at their own comfort level.

There is a stubborn myth in traditional education that every student must learn at the exact same pace, on the exact same rigid daily schedule. But we all know that life doesn't actually work that way.

When a student’s life circumstances shift, (whether they're balancing a job, navigating a difficult season, or trying to recover credits from a rough semester), the standard 8-to-3 bell schedule can suddenly feel like an impossible obstacle. Too often, the educational system tells our young people they're "falling behind."

We created the Innovation Flex Academy to completely flip that narrative. Instead of forcing a student to conform to a system that no longer fits their reality, we hand them the controls.

Flex Academy is built on the belief that autonomy is incredibly powerful. Through our specialized curriculum, students can focus intensely and complete courses in a four-to-six-week window. They decide whether a morning or afternoon on-campus session works best for their life.

But independence at Innovation High School never means isolation. While our teenagers are managing their own time, they are working face-to-face with a dedicated Teacher Mentor whose sole job is to keep them supported, accountable, and completely connected to our community.

Flex Academy isn’t just about making up credits. It's about teaching a student how to advocate for their own needs, manage their time, and take absolute ownership of their future.
