Thank you for the opportunity for all students at Owen Marsh to meet an author!

Author Lori Degman, a children’s book author, spoke to grades K-5 in three different sessions on Thursday, March 6th at Owen Marsh Elementary school. Lori spoke about writing, reading, how picture book are made, and the importance of perseverance, as well as read from her book. The project was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Springfield Westside and a Dist. #6460 literacy grant.

The Kids’ Raffle started TODAY! And it was a great day first day!

$1 per chance for your child to win some QT with their favorite staff member!!

The kids’ raffle will be happening every day at lunch all week! Tickets went home last week, more will go home Wednesday of this week, and we will have some available everyday at lunch too!

Send in money this week, so your kids can have a chance to win one of these awesome experiences!!!! $1 per ticket. You can purchase as many tickets as you want, you can copy/ print more at home, and you can send in money just once - or every day! The more you buy, the better the chance! Remember: $1 = 1 chance.

If you have younger students, please consider helping them fill out their tickets at home first.

Winners will be chosen on Friday! 💚🐸

We know winter weather is unpredictable and brings challenges to our day to day life, but being in school in person is a priority. At this time, based on the information at hand, we are planning on being IN school tomorrow, February 18, 2025. We will continue to monitor the winter forecast for Wednesday as well.

Winter weather is something that we must navigate in central Illinois. Our District crews alongside the City of Springfield and Sangamon County will be out making sure that our roads are clear and walks and parking areas are treated tonight and early tomorrow. The total precipitation is not expected to be extensive.

We will continue to watch the light snowfall as well as the temperatures for the start of the day tomorrow. We will send out communications tomorrow morning by 5:30am. In the event something changes, an E Learning Day will be used.

Again at this time, please prepare for an in person learning day for Tuesday, February 18th and check for communications first thing in the morning. Dress warm and wear appropriate shoes and gloves etc. as you set out in the morning.

District 186 will be open for school on Thursday, February 13th.

We look forward to seeing each student as we start the day. Our dedicated 186 utility crew, in collaboration with City and County snow removal crews, are actively working to ensure the safety of our school parking lots and grounds by clearing snow and spreading salt.

Dress warm, wear boots or sturdy shoes and give yourself some extra time for travel in the morning.Our priority is getting our students to school in person each day. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during these winter conditions.

‼️‼️We will have E-learning today, Wednesday, February 12, 2025!

Due to the snowy conditions, Springfield Public School District 186 will have an e-learning day Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

We will keep you informed as we continue to monitor the winter conditions, and make decisions for in person learning on Thursday, February 13th. Thank you for your understanding as we collectively navigate through these weather challenges.

Students are expected to login for instruction. Attendance will be taken and recorded as follows:

Elementary School: Attendance will be taken during their scheduled Google Meet session with their teacher. Students should log in to Canvas and join the Google Meet session during the time provided by their teacher.

Middle School + High School: Students must log into InfoSystem to confirm their attendance. (Click here for instructions- https://5il.co/1nsdh )
Attendance will be processed at the end of the day.
Students that DO NOT log into the Infosystem will be marked absent.
Teachers can also request changes based on student participation.

If your student’s device was not sent home, your school will reach out to you directly with directions for instruction. If you want to log on from another device, you are encouraged to do so. The teachers will still be on if students have any questions.

Students and families should check email and Canvas for instruction updates from their school. For more information, please visit our E-Learning webpage.

Project SCOPE will be open for currently enrolled SCOPE students from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at four combined locations. Please visit the SCOPE webpage to see where your child should attend SCOPE on an E-Learning Day.

Please contact your student’s school with any direct questions about e-learning. As always, be safe and happy learning. We appreciate your patience as we navigate through an e-learning day.
