It has been brought to our attention that there is yet another phone scam in our County where the scammers are identifying themselves as being from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and indicating that the person has a bench warrant for missing Jury Duty. The caller(s) are spoofing our phone number so that it appears to be coming from our office. The calls are NOT coming from our office.
Please note: THE MONROE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE DOES NOT MAKE PHONE CALLS ABOUT SUCH MATTERS, NOR DO WE SOLICIT MONEY.
If anyone receives a call indicating the above and/or the caller requests any form of payment or personal information, such as a social security number, you should hang up and call your local municipal police department or State Police barracks to file a report.

A message from our CPGS coordinators-

As part of the Community Partnership for Gun Safety (CPGS) grant, we are pleased to inform you that we will be hosting a gun safety event on Wednesday, June 3rd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Monroe County Control Center. This event is free of charge and will include discussions and instruction on firearm handling, safety and proper storage. Additionally, we will have various speakers present to address questions regarding concealed carry in Pennsylvania and other important topics related to firearm safety.

The event will be limited to the first 50 participants that sign up on our website at www.GUNSAFETYMONROEPA.ORG. and follow the Eventbrite link on the homepage.

All participants will be given a free cable gun lock and each participant will be entered into a drawing at the end of the event to win an electronic handgun safe.

Please note that the Community Partnership for Gun Safety will be hosting more events like this so if you cannot make this one, please keep an eye on our website for upcoming programs.

At this morning's Commissioners Public Meeting the Monroe County PA - Veterans Affairs office received a certificate of recognition for their outstanding work helping a veteran receive his Purple Heart! They also received a certificate of Congressional Recognition for their hard work! The certificates were presented to The Director of Veterans Affairs, Lisa, Deputy Directors, Eric and Sarah (not pictured). Thank you to all the member of the Veteran's Affairs Office for all the incredible work you do!

Thomas Walsh checked in at his first historical marker on May 1st at 7:08PM and completed the remaining 17 the next day, scanning the last QR code at 4:01PM on May 2nd. That’s less than 21 hours start to finish and the quickest completion yet. He stopped in on Friday to pick up his print of General Sullivan and is entered in the drawing for the $250 gift card. **NOTE Maintenance is being done on the markers and several have been taken down to be refurbished. Congratulations!!🎉

Tuesday evening we recognized Vivian Hayden, 8th grader at Pocono Mountain East, for creating a Keystone for Mt. Pocono Borough. She was presented with a certificate at the borough council meeting. President Norman DeLano and the rest of Council thanked Vivian for her artwork which is displayed in front of borough hall. Vivian explained that the piece is a representation of the word Pocono (Pokawachne); which in the Munsee Lenape language means stream between two mountains. Vivian is pictured with Art Teacher Marykay Citera.
