🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY DAY CANCELLATION NOTICE 🚨
Due to the threat of severe weather, the 4th Annual Monroe County Public Safety Day, scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026, has been CANCELLED.
This was not an easy decision, but the safety of our community, participating agencies, first responders, volunteers, vendors, and staff must come first. After considering the anticipated weather conditions, we believe cancelling the event is the safest decision for everyone involved.
We know many of our participating agencies, organizations, vendors, volunteers, and community members have been preparing for this event, and we sincerely appreciate all of the time, effort, and support that went into making Public Safety Day possible.
While we are disappointed that we won't be able to gather with everyone this year, we are already looking forward to seeing you next year!

Pocono Recovery Outreach Partnership to Participate in Save a Life Day on September 24

Free overdose prevention resources and community outreach will be available at multiple locations throughout Monroe County

The Pocono Recovery Outreach Partnership (PROP) will participate in Save a Life Day on Thursday, September 24, 2026, joining communities across the region in raising awareness about overdose prevention, reducing stigma surrounding substance use disorder, and connecting residents with potentially lifesaving resources.

Throughout the day, PROP representatives and community partners will be available at several locations in Monroe County to provide information, education, and overdose prevention resources to members of the public.

Save a Life Day Locations and Times

- 701 Main Street — 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Monroe County Courthouse — 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Walmart — 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- East Stroudsburg University – Dansbury Commons 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Street2Feet Outreach Center — 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- The Salvation Army — 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Save a Life Day is designed to make overdose prevention resources easier to access while encouraging open conversations about substance use disorder and recovery. Community members are encouraged to stop by one of the participating locations, learn how they can respond during an overdose emergency, and find out about treatment, recovery, and support services available in the community.

Substance use disorder can affect individuals and families from every background. Having overdose prevention resources readily available—and knowing how to use them—can give someone another opportunity to seek treatment, enter recovery, and rebuild their life.

PROP works collaboratively with community organizations, treatment and recovery providers, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and other local partners to connect people affected by substance use with help and resources.

Everyone in the community is welcome to participate in Save a Life Day. No appointment is necessary.

FIRST PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE FOR
MONROE COUNTY AND ON BEHALF OF EAST STROUDSBURG AND STROUDSBURG BOROUGH
FOR THE FEDERAL FISCAL YEAR (FFY) 2026 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) PROGRAM

Notice is hereby given by Monroe County and On Behalf of East Stroudsburg Borough and Stroudsburg Borough, that it will hold Public Hearing(s) on East Stroudsburg Borough: Sept. 1st, 2026 @ 7 PM, 24 Analomink St, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301; Stroudsburg Borough: Sept. 1st, 2026 @ 7 PM, 700 Sarah St, Stroudsburg, PA; Monroe County: Sept. 2nd, 2026 @ 9:30 AM, One Quaker Plaza, Stroudsburg, PA. This meeting is accessible to individuals with disabilities and/or persons with Limited English Proficiency. The purpose of the Public Hearing is to discuss the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program in general, the needs of Monroe County, East Stroudsburg Borough, and Stroudsburg Borough performance under the previously funded CDBG Program years, and to discuss the required Three–Year Community Development Plans of each community and County as a whole.

The 2026 CDBG funds from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania provided an allocation of approximately $391,735 for Monroe County and On Behalf of East Stroudsburg Borough $155,079 and Stroudsburg Borough $114,413. At least 70% of the available funding must be used for activities which benefit low- and moderate-income persons. The proposed activities must benefit at least 51% of low- to moderate-income persons in the service area to qualify as a low- to moderate-income project. The PA Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) has announced the application submission deadline of October 30, 2026.

The following types of activities may be eligible for funding under the CDBG Program: water and sewer line replacement and improvements; housing rehabilitation; construction of affordable housing; construction/reconstruction of public/community facilities; recreational facilities; public services that are new or provide quantifiable increases in the delivery of services; street improvements; historic preservation; removal of architectural barriers; code enforcement; economic development; acquisition and relocation; clearance and demolition; and general administration, planning, audit if required, and preparation of the CDBG application.

If Monroe County and On Behalf of East Stroudsburg Borough and Stroudsburg Borough would undertake activities that result in the displacement of families or individuals, then Monroe County policy for minimizing such displacement would be in effect. Monroe County is responsible for replacing all low- and moderate-income housing units that may be demolished or converted as a result of the use of CDBG funds. All interested citizens are encouraged to attend and will be offered the opportunity to give oral testimony at the Public Hearing and/or to present written comments concerning the needs of Monroe County and On Behalf of East Stroudsburg Borough and Stroudsburg Borough, proposed CDBG Program activities, the prior use of CDBG funds, as well as the CDBG Program in general by Proposals and comments may be submitted to the Redevelopment Authority of Monroe County, Jennifer Petersen at [email protected] by September 4th, 2026.

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners received notice of a grant award in the amount of the $1,250,000.00 for the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility in Snydersville from Congressman Rob Bresnahan. The new facility will replace the existing facility which serves the Burnley Workshop, Coroner’s Office, Monroe County Correctional Facility, Hamilton Manor, and Stroudsburg Acute Care. Receiving the check from Congressman Bresnahan is Chairman John Christy, Vice-chairman David Parker, and Commissioner Sharon Laverdure.
