Socialism on the ballot in Tacoma!
This week, DSA took home a slate of wins, sweeping the New York primary elections, including electing two new socialists, Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier, to Congress. These wins point to the dedicated work of NYC DSA’s 14,000 members and are part of a wider wave of socialist and working-class candidates challenging the corporate-backed Democratic Party establishment. More than ever, voters are ready for new leadership that will put working people first, not corporations. The mission of DSA is to do just that: build the party of the working class and defeat the corporate duopoly. This is not just a project in one city, but a nationwide struggle to win a democratic socialist future for everyone.
Earlier this year, Tacoma DSA members voted to make passing the SAFE Homes for All initiative a top priority for 2026, and over 70 members of our chapter volunteered in the successful petition campaign to place the initiative on the ballot. This year, members have not, as of yet, voted to endorse any candidates for office, but make no mistake: democratic socialist politics will be on your November ballot.
Core to our beliefs as democratic socialists is the idea that housing must be a human right for all. For many politicians, this idea is nothing more than a catchphrase, but for DSA members, we’re ready to take on the most powerful corporate landlords in the country in order to achieve it. Through this campaign, we intend to not just deliver a significant victory to tenant families in Tacoma, but to continue building the working-class movement and coalition that will be the foundation for future victories.
In Tacoma and across the country, a democratic socialist future is truly possible. Join DSA today to help us build it!
