Lucas County Canine Care & Control handles stray and homeless dogs and enforces dog laws in Lucas County, which is in northwest Ohio, including the City of Toledo. We have a staff of 32 people, including our Director, the Office Manager, the Kennel Supervisor, the Community Engagement Manager, the Community Outreach Coordinator, six Canine Control Officers, three Front Desk Clerks, two Dispatchers

, the Personalized Adoption Counselor, ten Canine Care Technicians, one Veterinarian, two Veterinary Technicians, one Veterinary Assistant, the Behavior and Enrichment Coordinator, and the Canine Care Attendant. Our department is funded primarily through the purchase of dog licenses. Your dog license purchase not only helps to protect your dog, but also helps us care for homeless and stray dogs, protect the community from loose and dangerous dogs, and help reunite lost dogs and their owners.

Meet Black Jack! 🖤

Black Jack came to the shelter as a stray about a month ago in heartbreaking shape—he was emaciated and covered in pressure sores. Thankfully, his story has taken a wonderful turn, and Black Jack is now a healthy, happy boy ready for a fresh start!

This handsome guy walks well on a leash, knows how to sit, and takes treats gently. He’s moderate to higher energy when he’s ready to have fun, but he settles down quickly and is happy to relax with you.

🇫🇷 Bonjour, je m’appelle Sheraton! 🇫🇷

Allow me to introduce you to this lovely French girl! 💕 Sheraton has spent the last 6 months at the shelter, and sadly, this is her third time finding herself here. She’s been through enough and is more than ready for her forever home.

According to a previous foster, Sheraton is a très bonne fille (a very good girl)! 🥐❤️ She’s good with children ages 5 and up, friendly with strangers, rides well in the car, knows “sit,” and even tolerates baths like the classy lady she is.

After three trips to the shelter, Sheraton deserves for her next stop to be her forever destination. She’s ready to trade her kennel for a cozy home, lots of love, and someone who will never give up on her.

💔 Fluke’s story didn’t start out easy, but it’s time for his happy ending. ❤️

When 3-year-old Fluke arrived at the shelter, he had wounds on his front leg and neck. Thankfully, with time and care, those wounds have healed beautifully—and now Fluke is ready to leave his difficult past behind and start the next chapter of his life. 🐾

And what a fun chapter it could be! Fluke is a high-energy, playful guy who absolutely LOVES toys. His idea of a good time is to thrash them, throw them, chew on them, and have an absolute blast! 🎾

This goofy boy has so much life and personality to share. He’s been through a tough start, but we’re hoping his story ends with a loving home, plenty of toys, and all the adventures he deserves.

Bright is a lower-energy lady who enjoys a nice, leisurely stroll rather than a marathon. 🐾 She walks wonderfully on a leash and takes treats as gently as can be—because this girl knows good manners are always a bright idea! 💡
