Trooper Tiff from Kansas Highway Patrol - Troop A taught the delegates from ALA Kansas Sunflower Girls State a great life skill with a self-defense class which not only included classroom presentations, it included hands on practicals to help keep these young women safe for their futures.

These young ladies learned from Troopers how to protect themselves in situations when they are unsafe.

🇺🇸A Moment of Respect. A Glimpse of the Future. 🇺🇸

Cadet Law Enforcement Academy participants stood at attention and watched as the Kansas Highway Patrol State Trooper Recruit Class conducted the evening flag-lowering ceremony.

For our cadets, this week is an introduction to leadership, service, and the profession of law enforcement. For the recruits, this week marks the unfolding process of months of dedication, sacrifice, and training as they prepare to graduate and serve the people of Kansas.

As the American flag was lowered, two groups stood side by side, with one beginning their journey and another preparing to take the next step. It was a powerful reminder that service, discipline, and respect are values that connect every generation.

The future of law enforcement isn’t built in a day. It is shaped through mentorship, example, and moments like these.

Thank you to our recruit class for setting the standard and inspiring the next generation of leaders.

Day 2 of Cadet Law Enforcement Academy 2026! These Cadets began their morning with physical training.

06/01/2026

As Class 75 approaches their next step, field training, they continue to develop skills and train for situations that they will see in the field, including how to safely end pursuits.

When drivers choose to flee, our Troopers are trained with tools and tactics to bring the pursuit to a safe end.

From Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) to Stop Stick deployment to the Grappler system, every option is focused on protecting the public, the troopers, and everyone on the roadway.

Congratulations, Class 75! Graduation is Friday!

Today, the participants photographed below volunteered to be part of the Kansas Highway Patrol during their Boys State simulation.

They held an election to select their Colonel. Congratulations to Adam, who was sworn in as Colonel. Colonel Adam then appointed Noah as Lieutenant Colonel and Jack as Major.

Following the ceremony, all volunteers were sworn in as Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers for the remainder of the Boys State simulation. The Troopers at Boys State mission is to uphold and enforce the laws passed by the Boys State Legislature. This provides them a hands-on look at leadership, public service, and the role of law enforcement in government.

Our hearts are broken alongside our friends at the Missouri State Highway Patrol after the loss of Corporal Gary Daniels.

Gary was our friend, it was a pleasure to work alongside him as we brought new troopers to our agencies, and he will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and our brothers and sisters in blue at MSHP during this time of sadness and grief.

You are loved, you matter, and we care.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please know you are not alone. Help is always available. Call or text 988, the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline for free, confidential support, 24/7.

When Corporal Gary Daniels graduated from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Academy in 2015, he had established the first bond in a trooper’s career: He would forever be a member of the 101st Recruit Class. Decades later, troopers can name everyone in their recruit class. Recruits make it through the rigorous six-month bootcamp-style academy because they learn they are part of a team. A team in which they can rely on one another when their lives are on the line. Over the next decade, Gary established other immutable bonds within the Patrol – first in Troop C; then Troop A, where he could be closer to his family in Kansas; then part of the Patrol’s recruiting division; and, most recently, at the Patrol’s academy, where he could help shape the careers of young recruits.
Each current Patrol member and the larger Patrol family ache over the tragic loss of Corporal Gary Daniels. Missouri Department of Public Safety Director Mark James, a member of Patrol’s 48th Recruit Class, said, “Our troopers are hurting because Gary Daniels was a valued member of the Patrol family with a stellar career. He recruited and encouraged young men and women that they could succeed in our organization and, then in the academy, he helped shape the future of the Patrol. The Patrol and the entire DPS family mourn this terrible loss. Our thoughts are with Gary’s family and all who loved him.”
We will remember Gary Daniels for his selfless service to the public and for upholding the values of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He will forever be part of the Patrol team.
If you or someone you know is in mental health, su***de, or substance use crisis, help is available. Please reach out to the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988 or chatting online at 988 Lifeline. Services are free, confidential, and available 24/7.
