Last week, Troop B troopers conducted an enforcement effort to help keep our roadways safer. These efforts help address risky driving behaviors and prevent crashes before they happen.

Thanks to a Kansas Fights Addiction grant, the Kansas Highway Patrol has partnered with Mirror, Inc. to launch Highway to Hope, a pilot program that equips law enforcement officers with the training and resources to offer individuals with substance use disorders a pathway to recovery.

Through the help of a Substance Use Coordinator, employed by Mirror but based within the Kansas Highway Patrol, trained officers in northeast Kansas can identify individuals who want help and provide them an alternative to arrest following an incident driven by substance use or related factors. Eligible individuals are connected to Mirror, Inc. for substance use disorder services to facilitate an opportunity for long-term success.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is excited to be able to have an alternative resource available to them and we look forward to the stories of changed lives that hopefully comes from this program.

On April 7th, Sheriff Chris Wells of the Osage County Sheriff’s Office hosted training with KHP and Mirror on our Highway to Hope initiative for first responders in Osage County.

Today was a northeast Kansas career fair for Atchison High School, Highland Technical, and Jefferson County Schools.

Trooper Jodi and Trooper Otero-Hernandez were engaging with students about future careers with KHP and the opportunity to attend the Cadet Law Enforcement Academy at the KHP Training Academy this summer in June.
