Quarterly Siren Testing 7/7/2020

A test of the Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations Alert and Notification System will be conducted by the Delaware Emergency Management Agency and the Delaware State Police on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. Sirens will sound at around 7:20pm tonight.

The Quarterly Siren Test involves a three-to five-minute sounding of the 37 sirens followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on local radio stations. The sirens are located within 10 miles of the Salem/Hope Creek power plants in New Jersey, and are the same sirens used to alert the public in the event of an actual emergency at either the Salem or Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations. In such an emergency, the public would be alerted by the sirens to tune radios to one of the local EAS stations for important emergency instructions.

MOVIE NIGHTS IN THE PARK

Due to current restrictions due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the uncertainty of when the State will lift all restrictions, Town Council voted at its May 6, 2020 meeting to cancel Townsend’s movie nights that were scheduled for June 12 and July 10, 2020. We are hoping conditions improve so that we will be able to proceed with the movie night scheduled for August 14th.

MESSAGE FROM THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION.

As educators and families nationwide make adjustments to daily life, Eco-Schools USA will continue to support you by sharing ideas to engage students virtually. We encourage you to follow the CDC and your state’s health department guidance.
In addition to continuing to share professional development opportunities and lesson suggestions for educators and ideas to keep children connected to nature for parents, Ranger Rick wants to help families stay engaged with wildlife and the natural world. Through the end of June, they are removing the paywall from rangerrick.org and making all the digital editions of the magazines free to the public. And if you’re giving homeschooling a try, we hope you’ll take advantage of the activity ideas and student pages in their monthly Ranger Rick Educator’s Guides and Ranger Rick Jr. Parent Reading Guides

The National Wildlife Federation is teaming up with Dolittle to ask all Americans to Be a Voice for Wildlife.
“Instilling a lifelong love of wildlife is one of the greatest gifts that we can give a child,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. At the National Wildlife Federation we are thrilled to partner with Dolittle to inspire the next generation of wildlife champions. This heartwarming movie showcases the wonders of the natural world, while underlining humanity’s responsibility to protect our planet and restore wildlife populations—and what is at stake for future generations if we don’t."

As the wildlife conservation partner for the film, the National Wildlife Federation is sharing lots of fun resources and activities on
