NEVER FORGET: As we continue to honor Police Week, we remember Officer Charles E. Smetana. Officer Smetana died on December 11, 1969. He was responding to an injury accident when he was involved in a crash.

Officer Smetana, only 33, gave his life for the Troy community. He died while on his way to help others in need. His sacrifice will always be remembered.

NEVER FORGET: Officer Martin "Marty" D. Chivas was killed on April 22, 1974. While investigating a robbery in progress at a service station, he was shot and killed by prison escapees that had broken into the business. The suspects were on a multi-state crime spree.

Marty was only 24 years old when he laid down his life for the citizens of Troy. Marty is fondly remembered today by those that worked with him and a section of I-75 that runs through Troy was recently named for him.

If you would like to know about Marty and the investigation that led to the apprehension of his murderers, check out episode 96 of the Already Gone podcast — http://www.alreadygonepodcast.com/uncategorized/96-the-death-of-officer-martin-chivas/

Marty died in valor and will never be forgotten. As police week continues, we reflect on the sacrifice of Marty and all of the officers that laid down their lives for their communities.

NEVER FORGET: As we continue to honor Police Week 2020, we remember Officer Charles "Chuck" Mulvihill. Chuck died on September 11, 2001. Chuck suffered from an apparent heart failure while responding to a call for service.

Chuck became a Troy Police Officer on June 24, 1991. During his tenure with Troy, Chuck received 13 commendations. Chuck was a training officer, friend and mentor to many of his fellow workers.

Officer Mulvihill continues to be greatly missed by his extended family, the men and women of the Troy Police Department.

RIP, Chuck. Thank you for your service 🙏

NEVER FORGET: Troy Officer William McCabe served our community with honor for 26 years. His name will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial in Washington, D.C. this year.

Officer McCabe died in 2017 as a result of injuries he sustained in the line of duty in 2002. Officer McCabe was struck by a vehicle in the intersection of Big Beaver and Crooks while on a marked police motorcycle. The driver had run a red light.

Officer McCabe was a highly decorated and respected officer, honored as the Police Officer of the Year in 2002. We will not forget him.

Officer McCabe is survived by his wife and three children.

Join us in remembering Officer McCabe and other officers that have given their lives for their communities on May 13 for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial virtual candlelight vigil — https://nleomf.org/programs-events/national-police-week/candlelight-vigil

Our own Police Memorial events have been indefinitely postponed and will be rescheduled when we are able to gather.

I hear you saying the right things, Troy Police Department, and as a resident of Troy I appreciate that you took a knee with protestors. But I'd like to know how many of these policies you have in place:
Thank you for your work in demonstrating with the Black Lives Matter protest and for taking a knee with those gathered. Your leadership matters!
Troy Police !!! Please join me in recognizing the dedicated officers of the Troy Police department in managing the demonstration at Somerset this evening. The officers were well prepared , professional and were respectful to the participants. I even observed a photo opportunity where a protestor asked to have her picture taken with her sign and the officer. He gladly participated exuding the spirit of the Troy Police department. Hats off to the officers that kept the demonstrators safe and allowed their rights for free speech. Nice going Troy Police !!!
Thank you to all the Troy Police and those who support them (the support staff we don't always see...the dispatchers etc.). Last night was only peaceful because of you. You put your lives on the lines daily for our beautiful community. Be Safe! God bless you all! - 41 year resident of Troy
You are doing a great job of keeping this protest proceeding in an orderly fashion. Kudos to TPD!
hey where is the tweet mentioning the looting of somerset? i see it in the other troy page . and tell me just who gave the permission, which tax dollars were spent to put up the cement barriers?
Thank you for Bill McCabs post. Pawficer Donut forgot a post for Marty Chivas who was murdered in the line of duty. He was a Great Officer a Veteran and the Only Troy Police Officer murdered on duty. Knew them both and will not forget them.
Called this afternoon about a nail salon by the name of La Vie at Wattles and Rochester road operating illegally under the governor’s executive order. The department sent an officer to the business. However, the officer sat in his patrol car for about five minutes and drove away and did no investigation whatsoever. Very sad that citizens, businesses, and of all organizations, the Troy police department doesn’t take the stay home stay-safe orders seriously. I saw firsthand three individuals getting their nails done. This problem will never be mitigated if individuals do not follow guidelines and law-enforcement does not enforce the law. The Troy police need to do much more than just drive around, sit in their cars, and not do their investigations and enforce the law.
My grandson turns 16 next week, and I was wondering if you will do a drive by?
Thanks you so much for swinging by for my son’s birthday today!! It made his day and it’s so kind of you to do during this time that is hard in our kiddos! Know you are appreciated!! ❤️👮‍♀️👮🚔
