PETS will be here Friday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for shots and wellness. They will not be here in June but will be twice in July. Hope to see you there!

What is more fun than winning at a casino? Winning at a casino and donating to a non-profit. Once again we were honored to be part of the Kiowa Casino Hometown Heroes program. Every Wednesday from now through July, part of every dollar you play on machines goes to area heroes. Play to win and help us as well!

The Humane Society will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen tomorrow with regular hours.

The shelter will be closed today so staff can attend training. We will be back open tomorrow, Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is Chica. She is a 2 1/2 year old Red Heeler/ Chihuahua mix. She is a very active girl. She would be good for a family that likes to take walks or would want her to ride in the car with them. She is very protective of her people and is not a fan of cats. She can get along with other dogs after introductions and time to warm up. Chica is nervous when you first meet her but after a few moments she is up and licking your hand. Come see if Chica is a fit for your family.

🚨 Rabies Alert – Confirmed Case in Vernon 🚨
Vernon Police Department, and Wilbarger Humane Society received confirmation today, May 20, 2026, that another skunk has tested positive for rabies in the Vernon city limits.
Again, please make sure to update your pet's vaccinations and avoid contact with wild or stray animals.
Please keep trash secured and do not leave food out at all times that can attract wildlife.
If you see something concerning please call animal control to investigate and do not approach the animal yourself.

We always have such fun at the library!

Just a reminder of the programs on schedule for summer break. Sign ups for the reading program, "Unearth a Story," will begin on Tuesday, June 2nd. We are hoping this will be our biggest summer yet!
