Today marks 25 years since 9/11, when thousands of Americans were killed in an attack against our nation. We honor the courage of first responders and the memories of all who died, including Minnesota's own Gordon Aamoth Jr., Max Beilke, Tom Burnett Jr., and Gary Koecheler.

The Administration’s 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods, along with Canada’s retaliatory tariffs that took effect today, will only make it harder for Minnesota businesses and farmers to compete and will further drive up prices for families.

I’ve opposed these tariffs from the beginning and I was a lead sponsor of bipartisan legislation to overturn the tariffs on Canada that passed the Senate.

Canada is Minnesota’s top trading partner. The Administration must end its trade war with one of our closest allies. I’ll continue to stand up for the U.S.-Canada relationship and Minnesota’s economy.

Google has used its dominance in online advertising to squeeze out competition and take revenue from publishers, including local news organizations. But after finding Google monopolized online advertising, today the court stopped short of ordering what the DOJ sought to undo this monopoly. That’s why Congress must act to restore competition and ensure journalists are paid their fair share.

A federal judge ordered an end to practices that depress ad rates for web publishers, but declined to order a divestiture of Google’s ad exchange.

Today’s landmark settlement between Meta and a coalition of states, including Minnesota, is a critical step toward protecting children online.

Meta has finally agreed to put in place critical reforms to its platform like time limits on social media and restrictions on push notifications, and it will pay $17 billion for the harm it caused.

I’ve been taking on social media companies for years — from passing the bipartisan TAKE IT DOWN Act to stop the spread of sexually explicit deepfakes on social media to fighting to open the courtroom doors to parents harmed by Meta’s constant push to make money no matter the harm.

Parents shouldn’t have to fight Big Tech alone. We need rules of the road to hold tech companies accountable and protect kids. Congress needs to pass strong kids’ safety rules and make these platforms responsible for the products they build so they stop blaming parents. It’s not the parents. It’s the products.
