What do young people say about their experience at SBY?

We asked. They answered. Here's what the data tells us:

* 88.24% of youth said that they were either very satisfied or satisfied with the overall quality of services they received from program staff (i.e. case management, referrals, skills groups, housing searches, follow-up).
* 86.9% of youth strongly agreed or agreed that they were treated fairly and with respect by program staff
* 86.9% of youth strongly agreed or agreed that achieving goals within their program is manageable.
* 85.71% of youth strongly agreed or agreed that they felt supported while receiving services at the program
* 85.71% of youth strongly agreed or agreed that they feel safe at the site they are staying and receiving services at.

But beyond the numbers:
Young people told us they feel seen. Supported. Believed in.

Notes of encouragement, belief, and celebration from people who see your strength.

Here's what some of them said:

At Sasha Bruce, we serve youth with disabilities, and we believe disability is a natural part of human diversity, not something to overcome.

In FY25, 158 young people in our programs self-reported having a disability.
We're committed to:
- Creating accessible spaces and services
- Centering disabled voices in our work
- Providing accommodations and support

What does healing look like for young men?

It looks like:
- Naming your feelings instead of numbing them
- Talking to someone you trust
- Understanding that strength includes vulnerability
- Building community with other men

At SBY, we've worked with young men who've survived trauma, incarceration, loss, and homelessness. And we've watched them transform when they finally had space to process pain instead of just survive it.

Healing isn't linear. It's not always visible. But it's real.

This Father's Day, we're celebrating the men who show up.

To the young dads in our programs: You're fighting every single day to provide for your kids. You're choosing stability over survival. You're breaking cycles. You're showing your children what love looks like.

That takes courage. That takes strength. That matters more than you know.

To our staff, volunteers, and mentors: Thank you for showing up as a steady presence, for believing in young people when they don't believe in themselves, for modeling what healthy manhood looks like.

Whether you're a father, a mentor, a teacher, or an advocate, the men who show up change everything.

Juneteenth celebrates freedom. June 19, 1865: the day enslaved Black people in Texas learned they were finally free.

But freedom delayed is not the same as freedom achieved.

At Sasha Bruce, we recognize that many Black and Brown youth in our community still face barriers to true liberation:
- Housing instability
- Systemic racism in child welfare and criminal justice systems
- Limited access to resources and opportunity
- Intergenerational trauma

Juneteenth reminds us: freedom is not just about the past, it's about building systems of care, equity, and justice today.

We're committed to serving our community with anti-racist, strength-based, trauma-informed practices that honor the resilience and dignity of Black and Brown youth.

In FY25, we served youth across the full spectrum of gender identity and sexual orientation.

Our programs are specifically designed to be affirming and trauma-informed:
- Training staff on LGBTQ+ inclusion and language
- Creating safe spaces where identity is celebrated, not questioned
- Addressing mental health challenges unique to LGBTQ+ youth
- Providing housing without conditions or judgment

But we know that housing alone isn't enough. LGBTQ+ youth also need:
- Community and belonging
- Access to healthcare and support
- Education and employment opportunities
- Hope for the future

This month and every month, we're committed to serving youth who deserve to live authentically and safely.
