Nazaneen resettled in Arizona after fleeing Afghanistan, and her mentor Erica is helping her meet goals to be more involved in the Tucson art community and improve her English. Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio has been active throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month in making sure people suffering from abuse are able to receive the support they need. Its CHOICES domestic violence shelter and hotline recently announced a massive expansion of the shelter that opened just last year. The organization also aired a half-hour “Choose Hope” television program to help people understand intimate partner violence, hear stories from survivors, and learn about the shelter and services offered at CHOICES. Lutheran Services in America is excited at the news that Lindsay A. Goldman will become GIA (Grantmakers In Aging)’s new CEO on January 1. Ms. Goldman’s extensive experience overseeing award-winning, age-friendly initiatives in New York City reflects our shared commitment to improving opportunities for older adults. A big welcome to Ms. Goldman, and our congratulations to current CEO John Feather, who retires after an accomplished nine years at the helm of GIA.

At the 2020 GIA Annual Conference, Board Chair Rani Snyder announced that Lindsay A. Goldman will become the next Chief Executive Officer of GIA, effective January 1, 2021.

Wellspring Lutheran Services announced today it will launch Michigan’s first recovery high school for teens struggling with addiction in January. Wellspring Academy will support teens who have struggled with drugs and alcohol to maintain sobriety as they earn their diploma. The New LIFE School in the Bronx didn’t allow the coronavirus pandemic to shelve this year’s graduation ceremony. The school, which is operated by Lutheran Social Services of New York and aims to “educate students in time to make a difference,” held a virtual graduation event where about 70 students, family members and LSSNY staff attended. As valedictorian Dayron Garcia Varo told his classmates “We are more than test scores.
