Our own Sarah Dobson accompanied Lutheran Family Services' Chris Tonniges and Emily Barr as they met with the offices of Nebraska’s senators (among others) on Capitol Hill. Chris and Emily shared updates on their work to rehabilitate an unused educational campus as housing for youth aging out of foster care and their experiences working with Medicaid beneficiaries impacted by Nebraska’s first-in-the-nation compliance with new federal Medicaid work reporting requirements. Amidst a rapidly shifting federal landscape, we're amplifying our faith-based voice on the issues that most directly affect our communities.

"Put on a pot of coffee, get people together, and talk about it." This approach is helping to strengthen aging-in-place supports across rural communities. We're pleased to see our Rural Aging Action Network (RAAN) featured in a new AARP Public Policy Institute report about replicable community-based care models for aging in place. The report highlights member Missouri Slope's At Home program in North Dakota as an example of how communities can strengthen aging-in-place supports by pairing focused direct services with a broader network of trusted local partners.

Through RAAN, Missouri Slope convenes organizations across sectors to share referrals, coordinate resources, identify service gaps, and help older adults access the support they need. The result is a community-driven model that expands local capacity without requiring any single organization to do it all.

As we observe the 25th anniversary of September 11th, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives that were lost as well as the bravery of the first responders on that day. We honor their sacrifice and will never forget.

We’re looking forward to joining several of our partners for tomorrow’s virtual briefing “Building Age-Friendly Rural Systems: Strategies and Implementation Resources for Leaders, Policymakers, and Advocates.” Our own Regan McManus will join UC Davis Health, The John A. Hartford Foundation, the California Collaborative for Long-Term Services and Supports, The SCAN Foundation, and the National Rural Health Association on a panel that will cover how health systems can better support older adults and family caregivers in rural communities.
