From Capitol Hill to Danish Residence, today was about one simple question: How can we build better food systems, together?

This morning, we brought Danish food and agriculture to Capitol Hill for a unique breakfast, hosted together with Representatives Jim Costa, Blake Moore and the Danish Agriculture & Food Council.

A number of members of Congress joined us to explore Danish approaches to food production, safety, organic agriculture, animal welfare, innovation & the role of farmer-owned cooperatives.

The setting was especially meaningful as we celebrate our 225 years of our relations with the U.S. We have maintained the longest uninterrupted diplomatic relations since 1801, a remarkable foundation for the partnership we continue to build today. And the conversation did not end at breakfast.

Later in the afternoon at the Residence, we turned to one of the biggest challenges facing food systems globally: food loss & waste!

A third of the world’s food is lost or wasted. Denmark is working with partners to ask a different question: how can we design waste out of the system?

Our discussion brought together US Representative Chellie Pingree, former Danish Food & Environment Minister Esben Lunde Larsen, Danish Agriculture & Food Council, Novonesis, FOSS & Scholars of Sustenance to explore the role of policy, innovation & partnerships.

From farmer-owned cooperatives to biosolutions, food technology and new ways of using what would otherwise be waste, the message today was clear: better food systems require collaboration across borders, sectors & the entire value chain.

An evening of Arctic and North Atlantic culinary culture in Washington, D.C.!🇬🇱🇺🇸🇩🇰

Last night the Embassy together with the Representation of Greenland and Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, came together to host and celebrate the rich culinary culture, traditions, and connections of the Arctic and North Atlantic.

The Arctic and North Atlantic have long been connected by the ocean: through generations of travel, trade, fishing, migration, and cultural exchange. From Greenland and Alaska to Denmark our communities share deep relationships with the sea and the land, as well as traditions shaped by the unique conditions of life in the Arctic and the North.

Through food and shared traditions, the evening offered a taste of the respective regions: Greenlandic chef, Miki Siegstad and from Copenhagen, Joaquín Guzmán, prepared snow crab, Atlantic cod, and shrimp courtesy of Royal Greenland alongside king salmon, sablefish, and po***ck from the Pacific Seafood Processors Association and the Alaska State Society.

With an opportunity to bring people together around the table for last night, the Wainwright Dancers from Alaska, shared traditional Iñupiat dancing.

Bringing these traditions together around one table is a celebration of the many ties that connect our regions - and a reminder that, despite the distances between us, the Arctic and North Atlantic are deeply interconnected.

After an incredible 33 years of dedicated service, Honorary Consul Niels Valentiner has officially retired from his role in Salt Lake City, with formal approval from H.M. King Frederik X 🇩🇰. We are deeply grateful to Niels for his decades of vital contributions to strengthening the ties between Denmark & the U.S.

We are thrilled to officially pass the baton to our new Honorary Consul, Christopher Kip Jensen.

Christopher received his official appointment credentials during consular training at the Consulate General in Palo Alto. Together with his assistant, Hagen Jensen, they are already off to a fantastic start serving our community in Salt Lake City.

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Christopher and Hagen!

From Tampa, we headed to Miami, continuing our conversations on where Denmark & Florida can find common ground.

Met with , connected with American & Danish companies including , Naxos Marine, DEIF, & , and explored Miami’s innovation ecosystem with Miami-Dade County’s Office of Innovation & Economic Development and

At the , we brought Danish & Floridian perspectives together to discuss resilient waterfront cities for mutual learning between two fast growing coastal regions.

And this time we stepped away from meeting rooms for a candid conversation about Denmark & Miami because sometimes diplomacy also happens best beyond formal boardrooms, with fantastic hosts & at the popular

From business and innovation to cities, knowledge and people-to-people connections, Miami showed just how much there is to build on.
This Florida roadshow may be a roadtrip but the connections are meant to last 🇩🇰🇺🇸

During our Florida roadshow, we explored that question across conversations with Mayor Castor, Bay Economic Development Council, Council of 100, Leader Driskell & other key stakeholders.�
We discussed Tampa’s growth & economic ambitions, opportunities for stronger connections between 🇩🇰🇺🇸 businesses & institutions. �
At Tampa Bay, we also brought Danish & Floridian perspectives together around urban development, water & mobility, but for ideas we can learn from each other.

For Denmark, that’s the opportunity in Tampa: building relationships, exchanging knowledge & finding practical areas where we can collaborate. �
And this was just the beginning! Next stop: Miami 🌴

Today we give thanks to the people safeguarding the Kingdom of Denmark 🪖

September 5 marks Flag Day for the Kingdom’s deployed. It is a day when we raise our flag and extends a special recognition to all those who, through international missions, have put themselves on the line to protect the safety and freedom of the people of the Kingdom of Denmark.
