In France, today is the second National Anti-Sexism Day.

The community at the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C. recognized these important days by holding a workshop under the theme (Zero Tolerance).

Combating sexism is one of the commitments included in the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs’ action plan promoting gender equality in the workplace. As part of its feminist foreign policy, France also combats sexism abroad and is working actively to fight the inequality, discrimination and gender stereotypes that perpetuate it.

Laissez les bons temps rouler! Fat Tuesday came very early to the French Ambassador's Residence–January snow was on the ground in both DC and NOLA–thanks to a reception honoring Washington Mardi Gras. Friends and colleagues from across the District of Columbia and the state of Louisiana gathered to share a piece of King Cake and to toast the unique culture, character and resilience of the Bayou State.

Fun fact, Washington Mardi Gras began about 80 years ago as a celebration for congressional staffers who were missing their ancestral homeland. Since then, it has blossomed into a multi-day party complete with a Carnival Ball. This year's theme is, "Duty, Honor, Louisiana."

On this occasion, Ambassador Laurent Bili was pleased to welcome special guests Speaker Mike Johnson, Senator Bill Cassidy, Congressman and Chairman of 2025 Washington Mardi Gras Troy Carter, King of 2025 Washington Mardi Gras Rico Alvendia and Queen of 2025 Washington Mardi Gras Kendall Williams.

"Women’s bodies are political.

In many countries, some want them to be hidden, to own them or control them.

50 years ago, thanks to the courage of Simone Veil, France promulgated an act that decriminalized abortion, giving French women control over their own destiny.

Today, our Constitution guarantees all women the freedom to choose to have an abortion.

Women’s bodies are their own – nobody else’s."

in 1975, France made history by enacting the Loi Veil, a groundbreaking law decriminalizing abortion.

Named after Simone Veil—France’s first female Minister of Health and a tireless advocate for women’s rights—it marked a major step forward for gender equality.

France continues to champion women’s autonomy, both at home and abroad, as a cornerstone of its commitment to Universal Human Rights.

American director David Lynch has passed. Lynch twice won France's César Award for Best Foreign Film, as well as the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and was an Officier in the French Legion of Honor.

He frequented Paris and worked with several French companies, including StudioCanal on his Mulholland Drive and Figaro on his slapstick "The Cowboy and the Frenchman." Lynch described the French people as, "the biggest film bugs and protectors of cinema in the world."

Although he claims he didn't, "speak French," and instead just "murder[ed] the language," Lynch was a friend of France and a great supporter of French cinema.

Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose message of equality and justice continues to inspire people around the globe—including in Toulouse, France.

The French city of Toulouse shares a unique connection to Dr. King through Irene Dobbs Jackson, who spoke about his Civil Rights work while studying there. Her son, Maynard Jackson, later became mayor of Atlanta and helped establish a Sister City partnership between Atlanta and Toulouse, uniting their shared histories.

Toulouse has celebrated Dr. King's legacy through educational events, programs, and even naming a plaza in his honor—a lasting tribute to his profound impact.
