On June 10, the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C. and Monnaie de Paris will convene leading voices from government, academia, finance, and the numismatic world for a special symposium exploring the evolution of money, from the birth of modern republics to the digital revolution.

As part of the Embassy’s America 250 programming, the afternoon will feature two discussions: one exploring the Franco-American story through numismatics and the second examining questions about the future of money and how rules governing it are being rewritten. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to see a rare exhibition of historical medals and coins and the unveiling of the Washington-Lafayette commemorative coins marking America’s 250th anniversary.

Speakers include Founder of Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries Jeff Garrett; Professor of Marketing at Johns Hopkins University Joël Le Bon; Former President of the American Numismatic Association and former Chairman of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) Thomas D. Uram; US Mint Director Paul Hollis; Chief Policy Officer of Coinbase and former economic advisor to President George W. Bush Faryar Shirzad; Monnaie de Paris General Engraver Joaquin Jimenez; Monnaie de Paris Collection Manager Julien Sabouret; and Monnaie de Paris Chairman and CEO Marc Schwartz.

Nearly 160,000 Allied troops landed in Normandy on D-Day.

In total, more than 2 million people representing over a dozen nationalities contributed as soldiers, sailors, pilots, and medics to the success of Operation Overlord.

More than 4,000 Allied troops lost their lives on June 6, 1944, including approximately 2,500 Americans.

We thank those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Vice President and Director of Brookings Foreign Policy Suzanne Maloney and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of France Agnès von der Mühll.

🏆 Choose France 2026: a historic record, including major American contributions

This year, the Versailles summit marked an unprecedented milestone: 71 announcements, €93 billion in investments and 15,600 jobs created — more than the previous 8 editions combined (€87 billion).

🗽 American companies stood out in particular, with 17 projects representing nearly 1 in 4 announcements, with the minimum estimated at €3.8 billion just for the announcements calculated at this stage.

These investments extend to every French economic sector: ☁️ Cloud & IA — Salesforce, HPE, Databricks 📦Logistics — Amazon, GXO 💊 Health — PTC Therapeutics, Curium Pharma 🌾 Agribusiness — Mars ⚙️Manufacturing & Energy — Ecolab, Linde 🪨 Critical minerals — USA Rare Earth

Sending a strong signal: against a complex geopolitical and commercial backdrop, France remains a top investment destination for American companies.

Last night, French Ambassador Laurent Bili, alongside our colleagues from the Consulate General of France in Atlanta, had the privilege of saluting 28 WWII veterans before they fly to Normandy for the 82nd anniversary of D-Day and the 2026 Freedom Prize ceremony.

✈️ For the fifth consecutive year, Delta Air Lines and the Best Defense Foundation, with the support of Michelin, are bringing these heroes back to the shores where they helped shape history and defend freedom.

🏫 Two dozen students are also joining this journey through two educational programs designed to ensure the stories and values of the “Greatest Generation” live on: the Best Defense Foundation’s NextGen Program and the Région Normandie’s Freedom Prize program.

Wishing all the veterans, students, and volunteers a safe and memorable journey! 🇺🇸✈️🇫🇷
