📄 On 25 June, USUBC was honored to host a ceremony of signing the Memorandum of Understanding between two of our esteemed members: GE Vernova and DTEK Група ДТЕК, on a EUR 900 million coal-to-gas conversion project to develop a new 650 MW combined-cycle gas turbine power plant at DTEK's Burshtyn site. The project is part of DTEK's coal-to-gas conversion programme, designed to provide flexible generation supporting grid balance and renewable energy integration, with commercial operation targeted before 2032.

The Burshtyn project and DTEK's 650 MW Poltava Wind Power Plant were both named among 18 flagship investments under the Ukrainian government's Economy of the Future plan.

The MoU was signed by Maxim Timchenko, CEO of DTEK and Roger Martella, Chief Corporate Officer & Chief Sustainability Officer of GE Vernova, who made remnarks on the significance of the project and the partnership. The signing ceremony was moderated by Irina Paliashvili, USUBC’s President & CEO, and was greeted by the welcome remarks from Denys Shmyhal, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Joshua Volz, Special Envoy for Global Energy Integration at the U.S. Department of Energy and Amb. Geoffrey Pyatt , Chairman of the DTEK Advisory Council.

USUBC is grateful to DTEK and GE Vernova for entrusting us with hosting this important ceremony, emphasizing the alignment of USUBC's mission with this major milestone in U.S.-Ukraine bilateral cooperation. 🛡️ On 25 June, USUBC – together with Defence Builder, General Cherry (Генерал Черешня FPV), Ukrainian Council of Defence Industry, KSE Institute, and with the support of partners Fluet, RTX (Raytheon), and Ukrainian Armor (Українська Бронетехніка) – held the Defence Day, bringing together Ukrainian and the U.S. defense industrial base and defense tech companies, investors, government officials, and industry partners to discuss co-production, technology transfer, and the integration of Ukrainian capabilities into allied defense supply chains.

The program featured three panel discussions. The first – "Ukraine's Defence Tech: Growth, Capital, and Partnership Opportunities", and the second – "Iteration to Institution: The Next Phase of Ukrainian Defence Tech" were moderated by Daria Yaniieva, President of Defence Builder, and examined the sector's growth trajectory, access to capital and the operational realities of scaling Ukrainian defense tech, as well as a showcase of the path from early-stage product to international recognition.

The third panel "Opportunities for International Cooperation in Defense Industrial Base: Co-Production, Export, Sustainment" was moderated by Irina Paliashvili, USUBC’s President & CEO, and explored the broader defense industrial base — increasing Ukraine’s technical and production capabilities, sustainment, and long-term international cooperation frameworks.

The work program was followed by Networking Reception and performance by Cultural Forces Music, an internationally recognized musical ensemble of Ukrainian army veterans.

🔋 On 24 June, USUBC, in partnership with Mercy Corps, hosted "Powering Ukraine's Recovery: Renewables, Biofuels, Conventionals and Minerals", exploring a broad spectrum of energy sources and the development of Ukraine's natural resources across two panel discussions. The event opened with welcoming remarks from Irina Paliashvili, USUBC President & CEO, and Jonathan Taylor, Associate General Counsel for Private Equity & Investment Funds at the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

Panel One “Leveraging Ukraine’s World Class Upstream Oil, Gas and Critical Minerals Resources and the Pivotal Impact of the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund (URIF)”, moderated by Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt, Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine and Senior Managing Director for the Energy and Critical Minerals Practice at McLarty Associates, examined investment-readiness in Ukraine's conventionals and mining sectors and the role of the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund (URIF) in deploying equity investments. Panel Two "Bankable Energy: Opportunities in Nuclear Energy, Biofuels and Renewables" was moderated by Vicki Aken, Ukraine Country Director at Mercy Corps, and focused on investment priorities and project bankability across nuclear, biofuel, and renewable energy ventures. 🔎 On 24 June, USUBC, in partnership with the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), hosted a Panel Discussion on "Navigating the Business Climate in Ukraine: Reducing Risk, Unlocking Capital and Trust", exploring how economic security, transparent governance, and rule-based investment frameworks can strengthen investor confidence and support Ukraine's long-term recovery.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Irina Paliashvili, USUBC President & CEO, and Jeff Lightfoot, Senior Director for Strategy and Impact, Economic Resilience at CIPE, followed by a panel moderated by Mykola Stetsenko, Managing Partner at Avellum, featuring policymakers and private sector leaders from the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, the Business Ombudsman Council, the U.S. Embassy Kyiv, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, UkraineInvest - Ukraine Investment Promotion Office, and JSC Oschadbank.

A keynote address by Oleksii Sobolev, Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, preceded a Signing Ceremony for a Memorandum between UkraineInvest and USUBC member Logistics Plus Inc., with remarks from signatories Maryna Khlystun, Executive Director of UkraineInvest, and Jim Berlin, Founder & Chairman of Logistics Plus.

The program also included a White Paper Presentation, "Foreign Investment Screening in Ukraine: What Business Needs to Know," by Volodymyr Landa of the Economic Security Council of Ukraine, and closed with remarks from Lev Holubec, Partner, PwC and USUBC Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors.

💼 On 24 June, USUBC, in partnership with the Atlantic Council, System Capital Management and DTEK (Група ДТЕК), hosted a Breakfast Roundtable titled "Investment Opportunities in Ukraine Now and After the War". The roundtable was moderated by Ambassador John Herbst, Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine and Senior Director of the Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council, who set the stage for a discussion on accelerating private-sector engagement in Ukraine's recovery.

Discussion centered on how Ukraine's "economic first responders" — companies already operating in the country today — need expanded access to capital to scale their efforts and help close the gap between current engagement and the start of broader post-war recovery. Participants explored practical ways to innovate on existing financing mechanisms and crowd in new investment now, rather than waiting for the war to end, reinforcing the view that sustained engagement by companies on the ground is essential to a successful reconstruction.

🎻 On 23 June, USUBC hosted its Welcome Dinner, a networking gala that brought together USUBC Members and Partners, Senior Advisors and senior representatives of the U.S. and Ukrainian governments for a focused evening of strategic dialogue on Ukraine's recovery, investment priorities, and transatlantic cooperation, combined with informal networking and cultural program.

John Herbst, Natalie Jaresko and Anna Kovalenko, USUBC Vice-Chair of the Board Lev Holubec, Board Members Vitaliy Radchenko, Mykola Stetsenko, Katie Strangis; Amb. Oksana Markarova; Amb. 📣 On 23 June, USUBC, in partnership with the Business Ombudsman Council of Ukraine (Рада бізнес-омбудсмена), hosted "3D Recovery: Partnership, EU Integration and Human Capital," a panel discussion examining how Ukraine's recovery is being shaped at the regional and community level through cooperation between government, business, and international partners.

The event opened with remarks from Irina Paliashvili, USUBC President & CEO, and Anka Feldhusen, Business Ombudsman of Ukraine, setting the stage for two strategic panels focused on translating high-level recovery commitments into practical, community-driven outcomes.

The first panel, "Building Bilateral Bridges: Recovery Projects in the Context of EU Integration," was moderated by Anna Kovalenko, Senior Advisor at USUBC, and explored how recovery projects are intersecting with Ukraine's path toward European integration, drawing on perspectives from regional government and the international business community. 🕊️ On 9 June, the Association of Philanthropists of Ukraine held the awards ceremony for the 19th National Competition "Charitable Ukraine – 2025: Philanthropy in Defense of Ukraine" in Kyiv, recognizing outstanding charitable, volunteer, and business initiatives from across the country and abroad. The U.S.-Ukraine Business Council earned third place in the Small and Medium Business Philanthropy category, joining a cohort of nearly 1,700 applicants competing across 28 nominations.

Several USUBC member companies were also recognized: SoftServe Ukraine took first place in Corporate Philanthropy, Sigma Software Unity Fund placed second in the same category, United Help Ukraine received second place in Healthcare Philanthropy, and BGV Group Management Charitable Foundation placed third in Healthcare Philanthropy. Winners received the amber "Angel of Good" statuette — widely regarded as Ukraine's equivalent of the Oscar for philanthropy.
