Last week, the National Governors Association convened its Annual Policy Summit in New Orleans, bringing together hundreds of state and industry leaders over three days of substantive, solutions-focused work.

Led by NGA's Center for Best Practices — the nation's preeminent state-focused policy and technical assistance organization, and the only research and development firm that directly serves our nation's governors — the summit addressed some of the most complex challenges in public policy today:

🏥 Healthcare affordability
✅ Maintaining program integrity in Medicaid and SNAP
📚 Advancing early literacy
🎓 Promoting career pathways for every student

Solving these challenges requires broad perspective and proactive engagement. It requires leaders willing to work across the aisle and across state lines. And it begins in the states.
NGA exists to make that work possible.

On this day in 1792, the Bluegrass State became the 15th state — and the first west of the Appalachian Mountains. From the Kentucky Derby to Louisville's world-famous bourbon, rolling horse farms to the Red River Gorge, the Commonwealth has been a gem of American culture for 234 years.

Delivering a quality education to all students is always a priority for governors — and when challenges arise, they turn to each other and to NGA for solutions.

This week, the National Governors Association hosted its Governors' Education Policy Advisors Institute in New Orleans, bringing together education policy leaders from across states and territories to address one of the most pressing issues facing students today: improving math and reading outcomes.

The agenda covered the full picture: early childhood education, child care access, reading instruction, high-dosage tutoring, mental health in schools, career pathways, dual enrollment, and education finance.
