On June 6, 1944, 156,000 Allied troops bravely stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. It was a turning point in the fight against N**i Germany.

Over 4,000 Allied troops were lost, but without their bravery, the world would be a very different place. Today, we reflect on their sacrifice and honor their memory.

In May, my office assisted 329 constituents with issues like back veterans benefits, delayed Social Security payments, or owed IRS refunds. As a result, we returned $799,688 to constituents that was trapped behind bureaucratic red tape.

Every year, I nominate incredible young people to America’s military academies. It’s a grueling process that requires strong academics, extracurricular participation, grit, and determination. I was pleased to send off our TX-31 class of 2030 appointees at my annual Academy Salute over the weekend. Join me in wishing them well as they depart on the adventure of a lifetime!

Today, our nation pauses in grateful remembrance of the men and women who gave their lives in defense of the freedoms we hold dear. Memorial Day is not only a day of reflection, but a sacred opportunity to honor the courage, selflessness, and devotion of those who answered the call to serve and never returned home.

Their sacrifice secured the blessings of liberty for generations of Americans. As we spend time with loved ones today, let us also remember the heroes whose service made those moments possible, and keep their families in our thoughts and prayers.

This week, I testified before the Rules Committee on H.R. 8469, my Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill. As chairman, I've been devoted to creating legislation that fully funds veterans' health care, including mental health services and programs to end homelessness. It also invests in quality-of-life improvements, such as housing, childcare centers, and infrastructure, to improve the lives of service members and their families. This bill was approved by the full committee with a unanimous vote of 58-0 and heads to the House floor today for debate.

It's National Police Week, a time to honor and commemorate law enforcement officers for their service to our community. Last night, I joined Speaker Johnson at a candlelight vigil to honor those that have fallen in the line of duty. I will continue to support the men and women in blue who risk their lives to keep our streets safe.
