🇭🇷🇺🇸 Today, the Embassy of Croatia was honored to welcome the family of Joseph Modrosic and William Joseph Modrosic, who visited the Embassy to see their relatives featured in our exhibition, Croatian Americans in the U.S. Armed Forces: History, Service and Partnership.

The family was welcomed by Ambassador Pjer Šimunović, who expressed the Embassy’s gratitude for their visit and reflected on the importance of preserving and sharing the stories of Croatian Americans whose service and sacrifice have helped shape the history of the United States.

Meeting the families behind these remarkable stories is a powerful reminder that history is not only found in books and archives—it lives on through the generations who continue to honor the legacy of their loved ones.

We thank the Modrosic family for visiting the Embassy and for helping us preserve the memory of Joseph and William Joseph Modrosic, whose service forms an important part of the enduring friendship between Croatia and the United States.

On behalf of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in Washington, D.C., in collaboration with their Croatian partner organization UNUO – the Association of the Most Vulnerable in Empowerment, regarding an inclusive initiative dedicated to the visibility, dignity, and active participation of people with disabilities. we kindly convey their invitation to support this initiative by participating in the Walk of Unity – A Step Towards Understanding, Education, and Recognition of Abilities, on July 16, 2026.

The Walk would carry a peaceful, dignified and public message that people with disabilities deserve to be visible, respected and fully included in society.

The Embassy of the Republic of Croatia to the United States expresses its sincere condolences on the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina at the age of 71.

For more than three decades of public service in the U.S. House of Representatives and the United States Senate, Senator Graham dedicated his career to serving the people of South Carolina and the United States.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Senator Graham’s family, friends, staff, and to the people of South Carolina during this difficult time.

May he rest in peace.

🇭🇷🇺🇸 As part of the Embassy’s A250 initiative honoring Croatian Americans who served in the United States Armed Forces, Ambassador Pjer Šimunović, accompanied by Assistant Defense Attaché Commander Ivan Rivarolli and Croatian Armed Forces Major Josip Furlić, today laid a wreath at the gravesite of Medal of Honor recipient U.S. Army Colonel John Joseph Tominac at Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony was also attended by U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Camire.

A proud Croatian American, Colonel Tominac earned the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism during the liberation of France in September 1944. Despite being wounded, he repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire, leading his men through successive German defensive positions and displaying courage and leadership far beyond the call of duty.

Colonel Tominac went on to serve with distinction in the Second World War, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, dedicating a lifetime to the service of the United States.

Through our A250 initiative, we are proud to preserve and share the stories of Croatian Americans whose courage, sacrifice, and service have helped shape the history of the United States while strengthening the enduring friendship between our two nations.

May Colonel John Joseph Tominac’s legacy continue to inspire future generations.

Built on shared values, the enduring friendship, strategic partnership, and strong Allied bond between 🇭🇷 and 🇺🇸 within continue to grow.

As Allies and transatlantic partners, we are strengthening cooperation in defence, energy security, connectivity, trade, and investment. The recent Three Seas Initiative Summit in Dubrovnik reaffirmed our shared vision of prosperity and resilience.

Croatia looks forward to further advancing this valued partnership in the years ahead.

🇭🇷🇺🇸 Throughout our A250 series, we have celebrated Croatian American soldiers, athletes, artists, innovators, and community leaders. As we conclude this journey, we dedicate our final post to the thousands of Croatian Americans whose names may never appear in history books, but whose hard work, patriotism, and commitment have helped build the United States every single day.

One such story is that of James Lawrence “Larry” Wright. The grandson of Croatian immigrant Marija Marušić, Larry became one of the country’s most respected trial attorneys, dedicating his career to fighting for those who could not fight for themselves. He never forgot his Croatian heritage, and today his family’s tradition of public service and pursuit of justice continues through the next generations.

Larry’s story is one of countless Croatian-American stories. Across generations, Croatian Americans have served their communities as teachers, first responders, entrepreneurs, factory workers, lawyers, doctors, engineers, public servants, artists, and volunteers. Together, they have strengthened the United States while preserving a lasting connection to Croatia.

We are especially grateful to the Croatian Fraternal Union of America for preserving Croatian heritage, language, and traditions for generations, and to the Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP) for building enduring bridges between Croatia and the United States through professional, educational, and cultural cooperation.

To every Croatian American: Thank you. Thank you for preserving your heritage, strengthening your communities, and serving as a bridge between Croatia and the United States. Your story is an inseparable part of both the American and Croatian story, and we are proud to celebrate it.

To all Croatian Americans across the United States, we wish you and your families a happy and joyful Fourth of July! 🇺🇸

🇭🇷🇺🇸 A proud milestone in the enduring partnership between Croatia and the United States.

As Croatia and the Minnesota National Guard mark 30 years of cooperation through the State Partnership Program, President of the Republic of Croatia and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Zoran Milanović, presented state decorations to two distinguished U.S. Army officers during the Distinguished Visitors Day at the international military exercise Combat Power 26.

Major General Shawn P. Manke, Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard, was awarded the Order of Duke Trpimir with Ribbon and Star in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Croatian-American relations and the long-standing partnership between the Croatian Armed Forces and the Minnesota National Guard.

Colonel Scott D. McLearn, U.S. Defense Attaché to Croatia, received the Order of the Croatian Interlace for his exceptional contribution to strengthening bilateral defense cooperation between Croatia and the United States.

Congratulations to Major General Manke and Colonel McLearn on these well-deserved honors, and thank you for your dedication to one of the strongest and longest-standing security partnerships between Croatia and the United States.
