Ambassador Pjer Šimunović visited Congressman Joe Wilson (R-South Carolina), member of the Croatian Congressional Caucus, Head of the US Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, a prominent advocate on the Hill of strong Transatlantic Alliance and Croatia-US cooperation. It was a privileged opportunity to express notably our gratitude and admiration for the Congressman’s clear and strong words of condemnation - resonating widely - of Serbia’s orchestration of recent pompous funeral in Belgrade of infamous Serbian war criminal Ratko Mladić. “The funeral is a rogues gallery of anti-American Vučić and Russian regime figures”, declared Congressman Wilson. In attendance at the meeting were also our Congressional liaison Darija Sinjeri, as well as Maya Cvitanovich, member of the Congressman’s staff, and Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich, of the great Croatian-American Cvitanovich family from New Orleans and Dubrovnik.

A U.S.-made WWII helmet, later used by a Croatian soldier during the Homeland War, has been donated by Croatia to the new Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum.

From the battlefields of WWII, to the defense of Croatia in the 1990s, and now back to the United States, its journey tells a powerful story of sacrifice, resilience, and the enduring 🇭🇷🇺🇸 partnership.

🇭🇷🇺🇸 For 30 years, Croatia and the Minnesota National Guard have built one of the strongest and most enduring defense partnerships between Croatia and the United States.

From training and joint exercises to the Bradley vehicles and Black Hawk helicopters, this partnership has made a lasting contribution to the development of the Croatian Armed Forces.

As new security challenges emerge, Croatia and the United States continue to strengthen this vital partnership and invest in the capabilities needed to keep our Alliance strong.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, the sky was peaceful.

It was an ordinary morning. People went to work, children went to school, families began another day. No one knew how profoundly that morning would change the world.

The attacks took thousands of lives and left countless families without fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, friends, and loved ones. First responders gave their lives trying to save others. And for millions more, that day changed the way we understood peace and security—something once taken for granted.

Twenty-five years later, we remember those who never came home, those who ran toward danger, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

We remember the people.
We remember the day.
We remember the sky.

Today, Ambassador Pjer Šimunović and Defense Attaché Brigadier General Ivica Kranjčević visited Shamokin, Pennsylvania, to pay solemn tribute to one of its native sons, Albert Anthony Francovich. 🇭🇷🇺🇸

A World War II volunteer, Francovich was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism during the Solomon Islands campaign. His courage and sacrifice represent a legacy that deserves to be remembered and honored.

During the visit, a wreath was laid in his memory at the Price of Freedom Memorial. The delegation also visited the local American Legion Post and paid respects at St. Edward’s Cemetery, where Albert’s parents and other family members are buried.

We are deeply grateful to Mayor Mike McLaughlin for proclaiming today Albert Francovich Day in Shamokin—a meaningful tribute ensuring that the memory of this American hero will endure in his hometown.

Our sincere thanks to Bob Sandri and his family for their generous hospitality, and to the people of Shamokin for their warm and heartfelt welcome.

Today, we remembered a son of Shamokin who answered the call to serve and gave his life in defense of freedom.

May Albert Anthony Francovich never be forgotten.

Congratulations to Filip Hrgović, who has made Croatian sporting history by becoming Croatia’s first heavyweight world champion, defeating Moses Itauma to claim the IBF heavyweight world title! 🏆🇭🇷

A remarkable achievement for Croatian boxing and another proud moment for Croatian sport on the world stage.

From Zagreb to the biggest stage in boxing — and who knows, perhaps his next title defense will bring the champion back to the United States. 🇺🇸🥊
