I was honored to be asked by my City of Wichita- Government District 5 Advisory Board Member Rachel Thomas to serve on a panel this afternoon for the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Wichita program The Commerce Club. Rachel is Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of the LW Board of Trustees and a member of the LW Class of 2018. The discussion topic was "Creating Attractive Communities," and I was joined by Cherisse Taylor from Vantage Point Properties, Chad Glenn from Greyten, and Graham Crain from Anderson Crain Investments. Our panel was moderated by Whitney Vliet Ward with Weigand Real Estate - Commercial, who was in the Class of 2004.

A great big THANK YOU to everyone in District 5 who organized a party for yesterday's National Night Out! Last night was a hot night, but I enjoyed meeting and talking with residents. I really appreciated my City of Wichita- Government colleagues in the Wichita Fire Department, Wichita Police Department, Wichita Park & Recreation, and our Public Works & Utilities Department who helped out with last night's parties and made visits across the city. And many, many thanks to Traffic Control Services of Wichita for donating barricades to NNO to help keep everyone safe at their block parties!

Just a reminder about Wichita Public Library's Westlink Branch in District 5!

A friendly reminder that all Wichita Public Library locations will be closed on Monday, August 10 as our technology systems will be down for upgrades to our digital experiences.

Some online services, including the catalog, will be unavailable beginning 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 9.

What a beautiful morning for the Wichita Fire Department's Apparatus Push-In Ceremony for Engine #17. This commemorative event dates back to 1886 when WFD was founded as a volunteer corps and fire-fighting equipment was pulled by horses. When they returned to the station, horses couldn't back the equipment in, so firefighters had to push it in themselves. We don't have horses today--instead, the City of Wichita- Government Council has invested millions of dollars in equipment for our Fire Department. I was happy to take part in today's ceremony!
