Dr. Beard will help guide the care delivered across our network of clinics and urgent care centers in Wichita and communities throughout Kansas. In this role, she’ll focus on clinical operations, quality of care and strategies that help make healthcare more accessible for our patients. 🩺

A former U.S. Air Force physician at McConnell Air Force Base and longtime Via Christi Family Medicine Residency faculty member, Dr. Beard has served as Chief Medical Officer of Via Christi St. Francis since 2021. 🧑‍⚕️

Pink for a cause. Pink for a reason.🩷

The domes and front entrance at Via Christi St. Francis are "glowing" pink throughout October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month thanks to special lighting made possible by our Medxcel Facilities Management team. The lights honor those affected by breast cancer and encourage our local community to support breast cancer awareness, education and early detection through self-exams and regular mammogram screening. 💡

In a recent KAKE News Medical Moment, Aubrey Ottaway, an oncology navigator with Ascension Via Christi’s Lung Nodule Clinic, talked about how the multidisciplinary team at the clinic helps patients move forward a clear plan when further treatment is needed, and how she personally helps guide and support patients throughout the process. 🩺 🤝

When a freezer truck failure threatened to spoil a shipment of food at Via Christi St. Francis last week, our team quickly jumped into problem-solving mode. Rather than letting the meat and vegetables go to waste, we reached out to our friends at The Lord's Diner to help pay it forward. 🥩🍽️

A huge thank-you to St. Francis leadership members Laurie Labarca and Cody Rodriguez, TouchPoint Food and Nutrition Director Jenny Ross, Chef Shawn Horseman, and the incredible team at The Lord’s Diner. Together, everyone rallied late into the night to pack and transfer the food. 💪🌙

What began as an emergency turned into a wonderful opportunity to support our local community and make sure good food reached people who need it most. ❤️🙌

On October 18, Bishop Carl A. Kemme celebrated the White Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, honoring physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals, along with their families.

The White Mass takes its name from the white coats traditionally worn by healthcare providers. It is also an opportunity to honor St. Luke, patron of physicians, and to celebrate the mission of Catholic healthcare.

The Mass was hosted by the Catholic Diocese of Wichita, the St. Gianna Guild (Wichita Chapter) of the Catholic Medical Association, and Ascension Via Christi.

Together, we’re making strides toward a future without breast cancer and sharing an important message: schedule your yearly mammogram. 💖

October is Safe Sleep and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month.🚼 Do you know the basics of safe sleep for infants?😴

Childbirth educators Grace Krizek, RN, and Toni Howard, RN, IBCLC, represented Via Christi at the recent Community Baby Shower and Resource Fair hosted by the Sedgwick County Government Health Department’s Healthy Babies program and KIDS Network, Inc.

Grace and Toni taught 115 pregnant moms about labor, delivery, postpartum, breastfeeding, baby care, car seats, infant safety and more. They shared about the award-winning mom and baby care provided in the NewLife Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Via Christi St. Joseph.

The ABCs of safe sleep help avoid the risk of SIDS. Babies should sleep:
💤 A- Alone: In a crib or bassinet, free from soft bedding, pillows, blankets or toys
💤 B - Back: On their back; sleeping on the stomach or side increases the risk of SIDS.
💤 C - Crib: In a safe crib or bassinet with a flat mattress, tight-fitting sheet, without wide gaps or bars and without soft objects or toys
