🚦 Traffic Tuesday 🚦
This week, Wilmington Police Officers continued traffic enforcement throughout town, with a particular focus on areas where traffic concerns have been reported by residents. Wilmington Police Officers conducted 80 motor vehicle stops this past week.

Here’s an important reminder: when officers respond to an area because of reported traffic violations, we are enforcing the laws based on violations officers actually observe.

And yes, sometimes the vehicles being stopped for violations belong to the residents who reported the problem or live in the area. Living in a neighborhood does not mean you are exempt from the traffic laws. Speed limits, stop signs, traffic signals, crosswalks, and other rules of the road apply to everyone, every time.

Wilmington Police Officers also continue to address impaired driving throughout town. Pictured is a driver who was ultimately arrested on suspicion of Operating Under the Influence (OUI). Officers observed the operator failing to maintain their lane, leading to the motor vehicle stop and subsequent investigation and arrest.

Currently the Wilmington Public Safety business line phones are down due to what appears to be a Verizon service outage.

If you have an emergency or require Police, Fire or Medical Services please dial 911. 911 phones are working as normal. We will update when business line phones are back in service.

Chief Brian Pupa and Lieutenant Matt Stavro recently sat down with Rob Fasulo of WCTV: Wilmington Community Television for the latest episode of "Wilmington’s Front Porch."

The conversation covers what has been happening at the Wilmington Police Department since Chief Pupa took the helm last September, including department initiatives, community programs, and some of the changes taking place within the WPD.

Thank you to Rob and the WCTV team for giving us the opportunity to share an inside look at what’s happening at the Wilmington Police Department and what we’re working on for the Wilmington community.

🚦 Traffic Tuesday 🚦

This past week, Wilmington Police Officers arrested two operators for suspected Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (OUI) and issued a criminal application to another operator for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License.

Both suspected impaired operators were involved in motor vehicle crashes. One operator allegedly attempted to leave the scene following the crash. The other operator had his juvenile children inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. In addition to OUI, this operator was charged with Child Endangerment While Operating Under the Influence and other motor vehicle offenses.

**Tonight, the Wilmington Police Department will host our annual National Night Out!**

Members of our department will be available throughout the evening to answer your questions and discuss concerns you may have about traffic safety in our community. Whether you have questions about speeding, neighborhood traffic concerns, crosswalk safety, or the rules and safe operation of e-bikes, we are happy to help.

We encourage all residents to stop by, say hello, and take advantage of this opportunity to connect with members of our department.
