With an increase in the use of e-bikes in our community we wanted to take a moment to pass on information pertaining to the e-bike laws in Maine. Please pay attention to the riders age and the wattage of the bikes are the most important. Most notably if you are under 16, pedal assist only, NO throttle.

On the morning of Friday, August 7, 2026 there will be a police presence from multiple agencies at the Winslow High School/Junior High School campus for a planned training. There is no need for public alarm.

Winslow has been lucky enough to assist the Maine Criminal Justice Academy's School Resource Officer certification course over the past several years. As part of this course, new School Resource Officers learn how to complete Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) assessments of buildings. This also allows Winslow Schools to get productive feedback on how to make our buildings as safe as they can be.

The Department of Education states: "CPTED in schools uses strategic design and maintenance of the physical environment to reduce crime, enhance safety, and promote a positive school climate.

CPTED is a multidisciplinary approach that focuses on designing and managing the physical environment to prevent crime and improve safety. In schools, it integrates environmental, social, and psychological strategies to create spaces where students feel secure and supported. The approach is grounded in the idea that the physical environment influences behavior, and thoughtful design can reduce opportunities for criminal or disruptive activities."
