Happy Earth Day 2026! 🌎

In 'Audubon Observing the Passenger Pigeon,' Norman Rockwell captures a quiet moment of attention and care—John James Audubon watching a flock of passenger pigeons sweep across the sky. Once abundant and now lost, the birds remind us how our choices can impact the fragile natural world.

This Earth Day, we reflect on the responsibility we share to protect the places, species, and stories that shape our lives. Rockwell’s painting invites us to pause, notice, and reconnect with the world around us—small acts of stewardship that begin close to home.

See this original Rockwell painting on view at the Museum as part of our upcoming summer exhibition, 'American Stories: From Revolution to Rockwell,' opening June 6.
