Chief Master Sgt. Brandon Oxton has taken over as Senior Enlisted Leader for the Department of the Air Force’s C3BM program.

During the change of responsibility ceremony on Aug. 28, Brig. Gen. Joshua Williams welcomed Chief Oxton and announced the leadership structure is now expanding to a “top five,” placing the SEL front and center.

Chief Oxton, who previously served at Mountain Home AFB with multiple deployments to Southwest Asia, said:

“I’m here to be everyone’s chief — enlisted, officer, civilian, or contractor.”

Lt. Gen. Jason Voorheis officially took command of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center during an assumption of command ceremony at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, Aug. 27., 2026.

Lt. Gen. Linda Hurry, Air Force Materiel Command commander, presided over the ceremony and opened by highlighting Voorheis’ accomplishments and his career path.

During his remarks, Voorheis turned his attention to the men and women of AFLCMC, thanking them for their work and emphasizing the Center’s direct impact on the warfighter.

“Just about every aircraft, weapon system, uniform, and piece of gear our Airmen take into harm's way is acquired, fielded, modernized, and sustained by the expertise within AFLCMC. You are the engine of our nation's defense,” said Voorheis.

🎖️ Extraordinary Valor in Public Service: Honoring Melissa Sayre

We are proud to share that Melissa Sayre, AFLCMC Acquisition Excellence and Program Ex*****on Directorate Development and Renewal Branch deputy chief, has been awarded the Department of the Air Force Command Civilian Award for Valor.

Presented by Stephen Demers, senior site functional at Hanscom Air Force Base, this rare distinction recognizes Melissa's heroic, lifesaving actions following a severe multi-vehicle crash.

Sayre, along with her son, helped provide lifesaving aid to crash victims before emergency responders arrived.

In his 40 years of service, Demers noted he had never before seen a civilian receive this prestigious award for valor. Read more:

An AFLCMC civilian wins award for valor.

Lt. Gen. Voorheis, commander, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) and his son Matthew, visit the National Museum of the United States Air Force booth to learn about their education programs and take part in their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) paper airplane challenge at Day Air Ballpark, Dayton, Ohio, August 22, 2026.

Lt Gen Voorheis was representing AFLCMC at the Dayton Dragons Professional Baseball Team "American Celebration" game. The game is a marquee night for the Dragons as the team expresses and celebrates military appreciation. The museum’s booth was part of over 10 units from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base with displays depicting various career fields and specialties offered in the military.

As part of the evening celebration, the Dayton Development Coalition hosted their annual Hometown Heroes night inviting service members, Wright-Patt leadership, and guests to the game.

Before the first inning, Lt. Gen. Linda Hurry, commander, Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), and Brig. Gen. Douglas Wickert, commander, Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), threw out ceremonial first pitches and the 88th Air Base Wing commander, Col. Jason Okumura, swore in Army and Air Force delayed entry program recruits between innings.

Enlisted, officers and civilians gathered for keynote speeches and networking during the annual Summer Trainee All-Call at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, Aug. 13, 2026. The event is for personnel with less than 3 years of government experience. It provides networking opportunities with senior level officials at Wrigh-Patt in a relaxed setting.

“Understanding Your Why” was the theme of the keynote panel. From AFLCMC, Executive Director Dennis D’Angelo and Director of Personnel Jennifer Bauer provided advice. Adam Remaly of AFRL and Michelle Busbee of NASIC also gave career direction and tips.

This year the All-Call also offered information booths, tours of a C-17, food trucks, and games.

What can an “85% solution” give the warfighter? Sometimes, it delivers 70 years of legendary service. ✈️

At a recent AFLCMC Life Cycle Industry Days event, Air Force Under Secretary Matt Lohmeier noted that an “85 percent solution in the hands of our armed forces today is infinitely better than an unachievable 100 percent solution endlessly undergoing testing.”

History proves this right.

In 1953, Gen. Curtis LeMay needed jet-powered tankers to keep up with the new fleet of jet bombers. During the bid process, Lockheed submitted a design that was technically superior—but it only existed on paper. Meanwhile, Boeing had taken a massive $16M gamble to build a real, flying prototype: the "Dash 80."

The Air Force faced a critical choice: Wait years for the "perfect" 100% solution, or buy the production-ready 85% solution to meet the immediate Soviet threat?

They chose the ready-now option. On August 31, 1956, the first KC-135 Stratotanker took flight.

Decades later, the KC-135 is still the backbone of global reach, operating as the largest tanker fleet in the world, and is projected to fly into the 2040s.

Not bad for an 85% solution.

Last week, Airmen, civilians, and contractors from DAF C3BM’s Architecture System and Engineering division traveled back to 1775 to see, taste, and hear what colonial life was like - and how it directly connects to modern Command and Control (C2) and ISR practices.

Reenactors from the 6th Middlesex Regiment in Massachusetts showed how early patriots used church bells, drums, and bonfires for decentralized command and control. Today, as we build the DAF Battle Network, we are still practicing those same core doctrinal concepts to ensure decisive direction to the force. We've just upped our tech game a little! 💻 🚀
