Last night, Firefighters from 238 Station - Broken Hill had the opportunity to host members of our local State Emergency Service for a joint training session.

The focus was on gaining entry to a building, covering a range of techniques from passive and non-destructive methods through to forcible entry.

It was a fantastic session and invaluable training for everyone involved, regardless of service. The opportunity to share ideas, knowledge and practical skills strengthens our capabilities and builds the inter service relationships that are so important when working together during an emergency.

Joint training like this not only benefits our members, but ultimately strengthens the way we work together to support and protect our local community.

A big thank you to our SES colleagues for joining us - we look forward to more opportunities to train together.

Our thoughts go to those lost in this terrible tragedy. 🚒👨‍🚒❤️

Today marks 25 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks.

We remember the 343 members of the New York City Fire Department who lost their lives while responding, along with many others who never came home.

We honour their service and sacrifice, and remember the families, colleagues and communities forever changed by that day.

Batteries don’t belong in household bins.
Even one battery can spark a fire in a garbage truck, recycling facility or waste site.
If you're doing a spring clean, make sure any loose or unwanted batteries go to a safe battery drop-off point, not your household bin.

To our Firefighter Dads who serve the community today and every day, also to the families waiting at home.
Thank you.
Happy Father’s Day. 👨‍🚒🚒

Spot the difference.

Have you ever noticed a water hydrant near your home or business?

Over time, grass, dirt and vegetation can grow over hydrants and make them difficult to locate quickly. In an emergency, every second counts.

This before and after photo taken by firefighters from 238 Station shows just how easily a hydrant can become hidden. If there is a hydrant on or near your property, keeping the area clear of overgrown grass, dirt and other obstructions can help firefighters access it quickly when it’s needed most.

A big moment for our neighbouring station 239 Broken Hill South Fire Station clicking over 100 years of service to the Broken Hill Community. Many members have served at the station over the century, any stories of your relations working there, let us know.

Happy 100th birthday to South Broken Hill Fire Station 🎊

In August 1926, the brigade moved into their brand new fire station which is still in operation today!

Our team at the Museum of Fire are currently researching into the history of the brigade for their centenary celebrations later in the year - do you have any interesting stories from South Broken Hill?

With another Fatal House Fire sadly occurring in Newcastle NSW on Thursday bringing this years total to 27 House Fire Fatalities, local Firefighters want to urge the Broken Hill community to check their smoke alarms are in working order and positioned in the correct areas of your houses.

🧯A smoke alarm has a life span of 10 years and the battery needs to be replaced each year. If in doubt or if you are having trouble accessing the alarm to check it, contact us at the Broken Hill Fire Station on ☎️8084 6238 and we can do a Fire Safety Visit for you.

In the event of an Emergency we encourage you to contact ‘000’ directly which will govern you the quickest response for an Emergency Service vehicle👮‍♂️🚑🚒 to attend to an emergency. We consistently have residents contact the station thinking this is the quickest response, sadly this is not correct and can take up to 3 minutes longer as we have to gather the information from the caller and then we ring the ‘000’ call centre to pass all the info on so we can respond to the call. Always contact ‘000’ directly.

🚒 Remember our Winter fire safety messages to stay safe,

Heaters need space. A lot of it.
Keep curtains, bedding, lounges, throws and drying racks at least one metre away.
Switch them off before you leave the room or go to bed. Never use outdoor heaters indoors.

A smoke alarm that doesn't work is just a plastic disc on the ceiling.
Test yours every month. If it doesn't beep, replace the battery. If it's older than 10 years, replace the alarm.
