The crews from Broken Hill Fire Station have just finished at at ‘oil spill’ on Chloride Street at the rear of the Post Office.

A semi has ruptured its hydraulic line as it was reversing into the Post Office yard which has left a significant hydraulic oil spill across both lanes of Chloride St. Firefighters have covered the spill with absorbent material and rendered the area safe.

Our crews are asking motorists to exercise caution in this area as the prime mover is unable to be moved at this time and is still blocking one lane on Chloride Street. Arrangements have been made to tow the vehicle away and this should be done within the next hour or two.

Crews from Station 238 recently completed their annual fitness assessment.

The assessment includes a series of functional tasks designed to test strength, endurance, resilience, and overall operational readiness. Firefighting is a physically demanding profession that requires cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, flexibility, endurance, and core stability.

Firefighters must be ready to respond to a wide range of incidents, which may involve carrying rescue equipment, dragging hose lines, and lifting ladders in challenging conditions.

Fire + Rescue NSW has developed these assessments to replicate the physical demands firefighters face during operational incidents, helping ensure our crews remain prepared to safely and effectively serve the community.
