Every day, there are many families in our city who cannot afford basic necessities. This is a critical issue, commonly overlooked by many, but one which St John’s Care in Reid (an Anglicare outlet) seeks to address. The ‘Anglicare Pantry’ relies solely on the generosity of donors such as our CGS students.

The CGS Service Council has worked hard to run a donation drive to raise food and necessities for those less privileged. After many meetings and presentations at Assemblies and House meetings, a seemingly infinite stream of donations came in, resulting in hundreds, maybe thousands of kilograms of supplies. The deceivingly ‘infinite’ amount of food was maybe enough to last a month or two. Despite this, it will go to support many households and was a huge donation that the Pantry was overwhelmingly grateful for. Our council spent hours exerting themselves loading and unloading the food into the warehouse and constantly advocating for this increasingly uncertain problem, but what got us through this was thinking about how it would help so many people.

Thanks to all the staff who supported the drive, all the students who donated and their parents, and our community at large. This would never have been possible without you.

For 38 years, she served food, comfort, connection, and a slice of home for our Boarders.

Tonight, our boarding community celebrated with an epic USA-themed feast, as part of our monthly themed dinners, complete with buffalo wings, Philly cheesesteaks, cajun jambalaya, a dirty soda bar, and New York cheesecake!

But the true highlight of the evening was saying a deeply emotional goodbye to a CGS legend: Perrie Morris.

For 38 incredible years, Perrie has nourished our community in ways that go far beyond the kitchen. When you’re a student living away from your family, the people who prepare and serve your meals become a vital part of your daily rhythm. Perrie has always been that constant, offering a friendly smile, a familiar face, and the quiet comfort of knowing someone cares.

Through her service, her warmth, and all those special little extras she provided, Perrie turned everyday mealtimes into moments of true connection. She made countless students feel welcome, supported, and truly at home.

As our Boarders gathered for one final themed dinner with Perrie, it was a beautiful opportunity to thank someone whose dedication has left an immeasurable mark on the lives of so many Boarders, for so many years.

Thank you, Perrie, for nearly four decades of compassion and commitment. You have fed generations, but more importantly, you have nurtured a community.

Wishing you every happiness in your well-earned retirement!

CGS Rugby has been proudly named the Brumbies Territory Team of the Year for 2026!

This award reflects CGS Rugby’s outstanding achievements, including the highest rugby registration numbers, strong community engagement, and meaningful connections across the territory.

As part of the prize, CGS Rugby players were invited to attend the Brumbies vs Moana Pasifika match on 30 May at GIO Stadium. Primary School students were additionally given the amazing opportunity to participate in the half-time entertainment during the Brumbies Women’s match.

Both Senior School and Primary School rugby players enjoyed a behind the scenes walk around experience as part of the Club March at GIO Stadium. Two lucky Primary School students Sofia and Polly had the honour of carrying the official match ball onto the field before kick off for the main game, at the commencement of which, CGS Primary students formed a guard of honour as the Brumbies ran out onto the field.

A massive thank you to our community, the coaches, managers, teachers, volunteers and—most importantly—the parents and players who made this achievement possible.

Recently, Mihini donated five beautiful paintings to the newly opened youth homelessness accommodation and youth centre in Woden.

After noticing the welcoming new facility had empty walls, she wanted to contribute artwork that would create a warm, uplifting, and inspiring environment for young people accessing the service.

Recently, two of our CGS boarders travelled to Coonabarabran to compete in the North West Equestrian Expo, the largest interschool equestrian event in Australia, attracting over 300 riders from schools across NSW and the ACT.

Olivia (Year 7) and George (Year 10) represented CGS with enthusiasm, competing across a variety of disciplines including dressage, showjumping, polocrosse and team penning.

George and his horse, ‘Oasis Off Limits’, placed 2nd in sporting keyhole and 9th in team penning. While Olivia and her horse ‘Nautique Nutt’ placed 7th in their jumping and dressage division and 10th in the pentathlon.

Despite a few rain showers, the weather held up and all events went ahead as planned. Olivia and George had a fantastic time and are already looking forward to next year!

Over the last month, Year 7 students from Canberra Grammar School have visited our Kindergarten classes in the Red Hill campus to become better acquainted and to extend literacy and numeracy skills together. This is a continuation of a much-loved tradition where senior students befriend and learn with younger students, creating a sense of community and shared purpose.

We look forward to many more visits over the year, and for all Year 7 and Kindergarten students to have the opportunity to work together.

Annie has poured her heart into running courses and welcoming people into rugby. Whether travelling interstate to be there in person or jumping online to review match videos and provide feedback from home, she does whatever it takes to support her referees.

Recently, CGS Rugby hosted its Alumni Round and Indigenous Round, in a fantastic day that brought many CGS Alumni back to connect with the wider CGS community. We celebrated once again alongside Daramalan College in what is becoming a long-standing tradition. To mark the occasion, Daramalan proudly competed in its Indigenous jerseys, while CGS wore its traditional navy jersey for the first time in recognition of our alumni. Indigenous flags were painted on Main Oval, and a smoking ceremony was led by Brother Richard Allan. It was a meaningful occasion that celebrated community, connection, culture, and the rich history of Canberra Grammar School. A big thank you to Daramalan College and the community for joining us.

In one of our Primary School classrooms, students have been stepping away from the rush of the day to slow down and reconnect with the natural world around them. Their body breaks have turned into little adventures, wandering down to the Agricultural area to visit the chickens and the veggie garden on campus.

Students picked sprigs of fragrant lavender, transforming them into calming perfumes, and eagerly tried to feed handfuls of grass to our feathered friends (with mixed success!). Along the way, students searched carefully through the garden, delighted to discover sweet raspberries ready for tasting and some not-so-ready oranges!
