In the twenty-first century, our students will live and work in Australia and abroa

d in ways that we can scarcely imagine. They will collaborate with colleagues across languages and cultures using tools that we have yet to invent. We aim to prepare them for that. At Canberra Grammar School, we aspire for our students to be intelligent, innovative and international; to be confident, creative and compassionate young leaders of the future.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is '𝐀π₯π₯ 𝐈𝐧', a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. In our Senior School Assembly, Year 8 student Alexis presented a moving speech, which you can watch the full here: https://vimeo.com/1197937602?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci

Four CGS Year 10 students put in an outstanding amount of work, forming a team and participating in the Harvard Model UN event hosted at UTS from 21 to 24 May.

Adam, Caelan, Kiernan, and Timmy walked away from the event with an award for 'Best Small Team', having participated in analysis, robust debates and negotiations in committees exploring human settlement, culture, disarmament and other global issues.

Each student was assigned a UN member to research and represent. Caelan represented Peru, Timmy represented Vietnam, Kiernan represented the Philippines, and Adam represented Papua New Guinea.

In addition to their overall event award, in the UNESCO stream, Caelan came in second place overall, awarded 'Outstanding Delegate'. In the Social, Humanitarian and Culture Committee, Adam received 'Honourable Mention'.

It was our Year 3 and 4 students' turn at the Netball ACT Primary Gala Day on Thursday, and what a day they had!

The courts were full of energy, smiles, teamwork and plenty of fun as students learnt new skills, built confidence and enjoyed representing our School. It was fantastic to see so many players supporting each other, cheering from the sidelines and giving every game their best effort!

In what is a superb reflection of his work in the CGS Bands Programme and professional development as a music educator at CGS, we’re excited to share that Mr Christopher Retter has been selected as a 2026 Yamaha Great Start Fellow!

As part of the Fellowship, Christopher will participate in a year of mentoring and professional learning, including attending the Midwest Clinic in the United States, as well as learning from Dr Joanne Heaton and Dr Rob McWilliams at the Yamaha Wind Orchestra in June.

We wish Christopher the very best in this endeavour and look forward to the new and valuable insights and experiences he will be able to bring to Canberra Grammar School.

Students and staff enjoyed a wonderful visit from award-winning Australian author Pip Harry yesterday. Pip spent time with ELC classes at Northside before joining our Author Spotlight Series event, where she shared insights into her life as an author and the inspiration behind her books. Students were excited to take part in a lively Q&A session and have the opportunity to have their books signed. Everyone had a fantastic time and greatly appreciated the chance to meet such an engaging and inspiring author. A special thanks to the CGS Parents & Friends Association for supporting the event.

Thank you to all the wonderful students, families, and members of our community who came along this past Sunday to support another successful Studio Sunday and celebrate our Music Programme. We had a great turnout, with almost 400 solo performances taking place across six venues at Canberra Grammar School throughout the day. Studio Sunday provides an important opportunity for students learning with our Visiting Music Teachers to develop their confidence and skills as performers.

We sincerely thank our Visiting Music Teachers for the time, care, and dedication they invest in preparing students for these performances. Seeing each of them presenting their students and all their hard work on Studio Sunday is always a proud sight. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for next semester’s Studio Sunday, to be held on 15 November.
