Geraldine has been a pate seller, pamphlet deliverer, telemarketer, apprentice puppeteer, philanthropy hunter, disability rights advocate, columnist, filmmaker and broadcast journalist. However she most identifies as someone who can't live without reading and writing and is proud to be releasing her first novel, ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ด ๐˜ ๐˜Š๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต ๐˜š๐˜ข๐˜บ.

The Geraldton to Mullewa line and the Mullewa Railway station was opened in 1894. In the Station's heyday, there were some 10-12 lines in heavy use.

Bernice writes historical fiction and non-fiction, reflecting her passion for discovering and telling womenโ€™s stories, dimmed or obscured by time. She has lived for twenty-five years on Wadandi country near Margaret River, researching local history and nurturing a native garden. ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜•๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜ข ๐˜๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ is her fourth book.

We're pleased to share that in honour of her contribution to the State's writing sector, Dr Charmaine Papertalk Green Smith has been posthumously inducted into the WA Writers Hall of Fame.

The Yamatji-Wilunyu elder authored five critically acclaimed poetry and verse books, including Nganajungu Yagu (2019), which won two major national literary awards and was widely respected in the Western Australian creative community.

The Premier's Book Awards poetry prize has been renamed in her honour. Tonight's ceremony will see the inaugural presentation of the Dr Charmaine Papertalk Green Smith Poetry Prize.

The renaming of the poetry prize and the Hall of Fame induction are undertaken with the support of Dr Charmaine Papertalk Green Smith's family and representatives from the Western Australian poetry community.

Caitlin Maling is a Western Australian poet with six books of poetry published (as of September 2026), her most recent book is "๐˜”๐˜ช๐˜ฅ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ต" out with Upswell Publishing. She teaches in the Discipline of Writing at Curtin University and lives near Walyalup/Fremantle with her young family.
