A little self-care and plenty of good company ❤️

Our Kalkarindji Aged Care team has been keeping busy with a range of activities bringing clients together and supporting culture, connection and wellbeing.

In recognition of the Freedom Day Festival, clients came together to prepare and enjoy a cultural meal of kangaroo tail and damper, sharing food and time together.

Roslyn also spent time with clients dyeing hair and supporting personal grooming, providing another opportunity for a yarn, some social connection and a little self-care.

Building on these activities, the team is now working towards introducing a monthly Client Wellbeing Day, focused on social connection, health, wellbeing and meaningful activities for clients.

A big thank you to Alicia King, Lorna Berd, Roslyn Frith and Sonny Victor for the care and effort they put into creating these opportunities for our clients. 🙌

A busy week in Kalkarindji 🏀🎶

Recently, our Sports and Recreation team travelled from Katherine to Kalkarindji for a fantastic week of activities around the Gurindji Freedom Day Festival.

The team kicked things off by supporting Kalkarindji School with its two-day Annual Sports Carnival, before hosting a Children’s Disco Night for local kids.

On Freedom Day, the team supported Gurindji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC with the community BBQ lunch following the Freedom Day march, before rounding out the celebrations with a two-day basketball competition as part of the festival program.

A big thank you to Gurindji Aboriginal Corporation for bringing together another incredible festival, our Sport & Rec team, Siby and Sudip, the wider Kalkarindji VDRC team, and everyone who helped make the week such a great celebration of community, culture and sport. 🙌

Victoria Daly Regional Council extends its heartfelt sympathy and support to everyone affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.

We know many people across our region have strong connections to Nepal, and we are especially thinking of those waiting for news of family, friends and loved ones.

We also acknowledge the emergency services, volunteers and humanitarian organisations working in incredibly difficult circumstances to support affected communities.

To our Nepalese community, please know that we are thinking of you and stand with you during this deeply difficult time.

Where could your career take you? 🌟

It was fantastic to spend the day with some of our region’s future leaders at the Big Rivers Careers Expo at Katherine High School last Friday.

Our team met with students to chat about their ambitions, the possibilities ahead of them and the many different career pathways available across local government.

We heard aspirations ranging from nursing, midwifery and medicine to engineering, boilermaking and law. And perhaps our favourite answer to “What could your future career look like?”:

“I think I’m just going to follow where the wind takes me.” 😊

Our lolly jar guessing competition was a hit, although the whistles may have been even more popular (our apologies to the teachers!).

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, and to Trudy, Christy, Clemence and Chellah for representing Victoria Daly Regional Council.

Whatever path these young people choose, it was wonderful to see so much ambition, curiosity and possibility for the future of our region.
