Mylor Country Fire Service

Mylor Country Fire Service Mylor CFS is a volunteer fire fighting organisation located in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. We also have a Support Group (or Auxiliary Members).

Mylor CFS responds to many different Emergencies throughout the year from NATURAL DISASTERS (Storm Damage/ Flooding) to FIRES (Vehicle Fires/ Grass Fires/ Bush Fires/ Structure Fires) and VEHICLE ACCIDENTS as well as other emergencies that may threaten the public. The brigade has two appliances MYLOR 34 (Pronounced; Three Four) and MYLOR 34P(Pronounced; Three Four P)

The Mylor CFS currently consi

sts of around 30 active members - Captain, four Lieutenants, four Senior Firefighters, Firefighters and Cadets. These are people who work in non-operational roles in the areas of Fundraising, Community Awareness and running of the brigade. Without the many hours of effort all these members contribute, the brigade would not function effectively. Mylor now have a station which houses both appliances, radio room, training room, kitchen and office.

The cooler evenings, the odd smell of wood smoke...must be autumn. SA CFS recommends getting your flue or chimney cleaned by a professional annually. If you don't know what creosote is, look it up - getting rid of it regularly prevents flue & chimney fires. Which means d***y dogs get to stay warm and safe for another winter.

Ok, ok, nice bit of rain - we can all have a couple of days off. Give it a few dry days, bit of breeze though...all that cured paddock grass and leaves in bushland: a weather change and a spark or lightning are all it would take for things to get interesting.

Here we stand under drenching rains, but still 2 months off the end of fire danger season...which means you'll get double payoff from clearing your gutters! 🌧🔥 👍

When the brown stuff's hitting the fan and the red stuff's threatening lives, homes (and pets), good communities help each other.

So very much deserved.

So very much deserved.

Bradbury CFS extends its sincere congratulations to brigade member Martin Carney on receiving the Australian Fire Service Medal.

For distinguished service as a member of an Australian fire service.
Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM)
South Australia
Mr Martin Osmund Carney

Mr Martin Carney has served the South Australian Country Fire Service (SA CFS) for nearly 50 years, beginning in 1980 as a member of the Bradbury Brigade in Bradbury. Soon after joining, he was appointed as a training officer, a role he has continued to excel in throughout his service. Mr Carney has also served as brigade captain and other frontline operational roles at local and regional levels, demonstrating prolonged exposure to hazardous environments during major fire events.

Mr Carney’s operational service is complemented by his expertise in training and preparedness. Drawing on his background in risk management, he developed a comprehensive skills-based training program for the Bradbury Brigade, covering fire behaviour, weather patterns, terrain, communications, and safety. This program has significantly improved operational readiness and volunteer capability. His service with the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission as a volunteer support officer for Region 1
strengthened brigade cohesion, while his later role as the state manager of Emergency Services for Red Cross SA saw him lead major deployments to disasters such as Cyclone Larry, the Queensland floods and Victoria’s Black Saturday fires.

A passionate advocate for community education, Mr Carney created and delivered an impactful, map-based bushfire preparedness program for households in local communities. He was also an early and active supporter of women in operational firefighting roles, helping to foster a more inclusive culture within the SA CFS. Following the 2021 Cherry Gardens fire, he provided compassionate and practical support to firefighters and families affected by loss and trauma.

Mr Carney has made an enduring contribution to community safety through his leadership in hazardous operations, his innovation in volunteer training, and his commitment to resilience and inclusion. His outstanding service exemplifies the highest standards of the South Australian Country Fire Service.

Molly, a new Mylor resident, knows that on a Total Fire Ban day, fire can race through dry vegetation quicker than a lycra-clad middle-ager pedalling to the next café latte. Help us to help you by keeping buffers around dwellings and assets, leaves from gutters, and driveways clear of overgrowth.

Something to think about. Thanks to Aldgate CFS.

It's not just about bushfires: if you had an emergency in your home, could we park a fire truck close to your house to help?
