🚒 Ever wondered what actually happens the moment someone dials 000 for a fire?

This week many of our crew headed down to Adelaide Fire Station to sit in on Comms and see it for ourselves - from the initial call coming in, right through to appliances being dispatched to an incident.

It's easy to take for granted, but there's a lot of quick thinking and coordination happening behind the scenes before a truck even leaves the station. Big thanks to the crew at Adelaide Fire Station for having us and talking us through it all - a genuinely great, informative evening.

🌳⚡ 🚨Tree Down – adj Woodhouse
With the wind and rain picking up tonight, our crew was called out to a tree down behind Woodhouse, blocking the road. Two appliances responded and made quick work of clearing it so the road could be reopened safely.
Not the most dramatic job on the books, but exactly the kind of thing our volunteers turn out for night after night. Thanks to the crew for getting out there and getting it sorted.
With more wind and rain forecast, please take care on the roads and give trees a wide berth if you spot one down. If it's blocking a road or has power lines involved, call 000.
Stay safe out there. 🚒

🚨 Ever wondered what a backdraught actually looks like? This slow-motion clip says it all!

Brigade training this week was supported by CFS Training Ops, giving us the chance to go deeper into structure fire behaviour-and this demonstration didn’t disappoint.
The setup: a sealed room complete with timber furniture and foam chairs, starved of oxygen. Inside, thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) is already breaking down the contents and filling the space with superheated, unburnt gases.
Then oxygen is reintroduced. The result? Exactly what you see. 💥🔥💥

Understanding fire dynamics like this is why training matters - recognising the warning signs of a backdraught can be the difference between a controlled response and a catastrophic one.

🚨The photos don’t quite capture the scale of it!🌳

Early this morning, our crews responded to a significant tree fall adjacent to Crafers Primary School. Working alongside SA State Emergency Service and Adelaide Hills Council, firefighters quickly got to work clearing a safe access route so local residents could get through for work and school.

With access restored, SES and Adelaide Hills Council have now taken over the larger clean-up operation.

A timely reminder that after periods of heavy rain, saturated soils can make even healthy trees more susceptible to falling. Please take care.

🚨Our amazing Piccadilly crew attended today’s runaway camp fire near Eagle on the Hill. Multiple brigades and 2 water bombers were in attendance. It was a timely reminder that 🔥bushfire risk🔥 is still very active in our area during this continued warm weather.

🚨A very lucky 🍀 driver and passenger tonight on Mt Lofty Summit Rd as a silver sedan tried its hand at off-roading without success. 🚗
Jokes aside, hills driving - like all driving - requires care, attention and driving to the conditions.
These occupants were extremely lucky to have found a gap - and not a tree trunk. 🪾 and were able to go home to their families.
⚠️Please stay safe on the roads.
