EVENTS | 🔥 Tongs Not Thongs BBQ Breakfast Outreach 🔥🥓

Towac 1 visited Cudal RFB this morning for the 3rd edition of the Tongs Not Thongs (TNT) BBQ breakfast program, bringing brigades together to share stories, strengthen connections, build awareness and camaraderie beyond the fire-ground.

Great to see members from Cudal RFB, Cheeseman’s Creek RFB, and Canobolas Zone L&D involved in the morning.

The TNT initiative continues to connect rural and remote brigades across Canobolas Zone, building resilience, teamwork, and strong relationships.

Thanks 👏 to Cudal RFB for the warm welcome! 🚒

INFORMATION | Towac Tuesday Team aka Triple T's

Every Tuesday, several of our dedicated brigade members come together at the station to carry out maintenance on our three fire appliances. It’s more than just upkeep—they collaborate, tackle brigade challenges, and even share conversations about broader (global) issues.

We’re incredibly grateful of our Triple T's. Their commitment plays a vital role in keeping our equipment ready and our fire trucks prepared for action. 🚒👏

❌ TRAINING | First Aid ❌

NSW Rural Fire Service requires members to keep competencies current, especially for operational roles.

Over the weekend, Towac Rural Fire Brigade had two (2) Deputy Captains complete their First Aid [FAA] (recertifications aka "refresher") and another Deputy Captain (Mentor | Trainer) conducting MVA scenarios.

EVENTS | 🔥 Tongs Not Thongs BBQ Breakfast Outreach 🔥

It was an early start for the Towac RFB crew, with Towac 1 heading out to Newbridge RFB (Blayney LGA) this morning.

Set against the rolling grazing country of the Central Tablelands, Newbridge delivered a classic chilly start of 5°C, but feeling more like -3°C! ❄️

Arriving just before 0800hrs, Team Towac received a warm welcome from Captain David and the dedicated Newbridge volunteers.

Towac Rural Fire Brigade proudly hosted the BBQ breakfast, bringing everyone together to share stories, experiences, and a few laughs—strengthening connections and building camaraderie beyond the fire-ground.

The Tongs Not Thongs initiative is all about connecting rural and remote brigades across Canobolas Zone, supporting resilience, teamwork, and strong relationships across our network.

A big thank you to Newbridge RFB for welcoming us and being part of the program—we appreciate the opportunity to connect with your brigade and community. 👏

If your brigade would like to get involved in the Tongs Not Thongs outreach program, send us a DM or contact Orange Fire Control Centre (FCC) for more information.

Enjoy the extra hour sleep tonight everyone, don't forget to turn back your clock (1) one hour and check your residential smoke alarms. 😁
NSW Rural Fire Service 🕝🇦🇺

As daylight saving ends and we gain an extra hour, it’s a great opportunity to take a moment for home fire safety. It is important to check your smoke alarms to ensure they’re working properly.

It’s crucial your home has working smoke alarms, as they provide an early warning and give you and your family valuable time to escape during a house fire.

With the cooler months approaching, please stay safe this winter. There are several simple steps you can take, such as creating a home escape plan, ensuring your smoke alarm is working and keeping all items at least a meter from the heater.

INFORMATION | BFDP

The statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the majority of NSW ends at 12 midnight Tuesday 31 March 2026.

Today, 31 March, marks the end of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the majority of NSW. However, due to the ongoing fire risk, the BFDP will be extended in four Local Government Areas, including Gwydir, Mid-Western, Moree Plains and Narrabri.

While many landholders may no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the RFS and your neighbours of your intention to burn at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

For more information on the bush fire danger period and fire permits, visit the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP
