Some good news. Bayside Council has adopted a new Clothing Bin Policy. This is the formal outcome of the Notice of Motion I moved, and Council adopted in early 2025.

What my motion has now locked in:

♻️ A formal approval and EOI process for clothing bins on Council land. Specific locations to be determined.

🧹 Rules requiring operators to keep sites clean and deal with overflow, dumping and graffiti.

🤝 Preference for operators who deliver a real charitable or community benefit.

🇦🇺 Focus on reuse and recycling in Australia, not landfill.

📍 Designated collection points, including our Bexley and Botany Depots.

A clearer system which supports the Circular Economy. The policy aims to deliver cleaner sites with clothes given a second life and unauthorised bins to be removed.

🚨BRIGHTON LE SANDS RESIDENTS – THE PROPOSED BRIGHTON LE SANDS MASTERPLAN IS BACK AGAIN!🚨

Here we go again! You just can’t make this up.

On Wednesday 2 September the City Planning & Environment Committee will consider Item CPE26.021. Council Officers want to reactivate Phase 2 to overdevelop Brighton Le Sands with high-rise towers. This is the exact process that was rejected by Councillors on 27 May 2026. That’s barely 3 months ago.

This is a clear attempt to reactivate Phase 2 as part of a process whose own economic study says 10 storey (and in places 20 storey) development is required for viability. Once Phase 2 is endorsed, the next logical steps are identifying specific streets and sites for height uplift. After that, unelected planning panels (not elected councillors) can approve individual high-rise applications.

❌ Phase 2 means consultants, “early engagement”, and a draft Masterplan built on a feasibility study that says commercially viable development needs around 10+ storeys in higher-viability areas and around 20+ storeys in lower-viability areas.

❌ Council Officers admit extra height and density “will be necessary to facilitate redevelopment.”

❌ The study area still covers the heart of our suburb, The Grand Parade, Sellwood Street, President Avenue and George Street. That’s the town centre, Bay Street and the surrounding residential streets.

❌ Once sites and streets are mapped for extra height, unelected planning panels can approve towers in your street. Pitting neighbour against neighbour. Our local amenity is gone. The face of Brighton Le Sands changed forever.

They tried this in May. The community spoke. This is an attempt to start the high-rise process all over again and transform Brighton Le Sands into another Wolli Creek or Chatswood.

The 7 Councillors who will decide this on Wednesday 2 September 6:30 pm, Botany Town Hall are:

Last night, Bayside Council warmly welcomed the Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in Sydney, Mr Georgios Skemperis.

This was a special opportunity to acknowledge the 100th Anniversary of the Consulate General of Greece, Sydney.

Established in 1926, the Consulate continues to serve as a vital bridge between Greece and Australia by providing essential consular services and supporting the vibrant Greek diaspora across New South Wales.

The Greek Australian Community including those who speak Greek or proudly claim Greek ancestry remains one of the largest ethnic groups in Bayside and are especially prominent across Ward 5 which is fair to say is the epicentre of Greek Australian life here in Sydney.

Congratulations on this significant milestone and thank you for facilitating an enduring partnership with strong foundations of friendship between Greece and Australia including during both World Wars. 🇬🇷🇦🇺

🚤Tap into better boating at Kyeemagh!

I’m delighted that Councillors supported my Notice of Motion at the 27 May Council meeting for extra water taps and a dedicated wash bay area to be introduced in the carpark at the Kyeemagh Boat Ramp Reserve to assist with rinsing boats, trailers and equipment.

This request came straight from feedback by local boaties and fishers who love this highly popular and well used public recreational facility.

I’ll keep you updated on how these improvements are further progressed in the near future.🎣

⚓️ The St George Sailing Club invested $15 million upgrading their venue to create a popular visitor destination.⛵️

When the Club pointed out to me the tired and somewhat neglected garden beds in the adjoining Council Carpark, I was more than happy to help change this.

🌳After some recently completed works, I’m pleased to see the whole area and landscaping looking so much better. 🌱

Commuters are stuck in traffic while the Government stays silent.

🔴 No opening date.
🔴 No clear plan.
🔴 No real answers for Southern Sydney families trying to get home sooner.

The M6 was meant to reduce congestion - instead, locals are being left frustrated and fed up.

📣People Power Wins! This evening, Bayside Council has reversed its decision to demolish Dolls Point Wharf.

🙏Many thanks to everyone who fought hard to Save Dolls Point Wharf. Now we can start the process to restore the wharf and return it to the community. I’ll keep you posted.🎣

As Sydney’s Pontian community commemorated the Greek Genocide this morning, I had the privilege to represent Bayside Council on behalf of the Mayor.

I attended a special wreath-laying ceremony organised by the Hellenic Pontian Genocide Commemorative Committee including the Greek Pontian Society of Wollongong “Diogenes”, Panagia Soumela Sydney and Pontoxeniteas NSW .

The Pontian People remain strong and their Culture continues despite the atrocities committed against their ancestors.

May their memories be eternal. Αιωνία η μνήμη.

Tonight, I attended the Windgap Gala Ball which raises vital funds and community awareness for the Windgap Foundation, providing crucial programs, housing and supported employment for the empowerment of adults with disabilities.

A wonderful night dedicated to support individuals and their quality of life.
