A warm welcome to the Italian business delegation arrived in Bangladesh in the field of textile innovation and technology. 👏🇮🇹

The delegation is accompanied by Italian regional Trade Commissioner Antonietta Baccanari and ITA and ACIMIT officials.

The program includes presentations, B2B meetings and visits to factories in Dhaka and Chittagong, in collaboration with BGMEA, BTMA, BKMEA, and the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the support of the Honorary Consul of Italy Mr. Salman Ispahani.

At the opening session Ambassador Alessandro recalled the contribution of Italian companies to the birth and development of the Bangladesh textile industry, as well as their commitment to provide local partners with the technologies needed to tackle new challenges, such as sustainability, logistical constraints, and evolving global demand.

Commissioner Baccanari emphasized that Italy is globally recognised as the benchmark for excellence in textile machinery. Italian equipment is sought after worldwide for its performance and reliability. "We do not just build machines; we design the future of the global textile industry."

Today the Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Antonio Alessandro, hosted a commemorative ceremony in honor of the twenty-four victims—nine of them Italian—of the terrorist attack that took place on July 1, 2016, at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka.

Among those in attendance were diplomatic representatives from Japan, India, and the United States—the countries from which the victims originated—as well as representatives of the police, family members and friends of the victims, hostages who survived the attack, and representatives of the Italian community.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Shama Obaed, attended on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh. In her closing remarks she expressed sympathy to the victims’ families and reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to preventing and combating violent extremism.

On the occasion, Ambassador Alessandro read a message from the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

In the President’s words: “The terrorists sought to sow hatred and fuel division between the people of Bangladesh and the international community. Instead, what emerged was stronger solidarity, a deeper awareness of the value of dialogue among peoples, and a shared commitment to opposing violence.”

Ambassador Alessandro recalled the contribution made by the Italian victims—entrepreneurs and private-sector professionals—to the growth of Bangladesh’s economy. He emphasized the inclusive nature of the ceremony, which is held in remembrance of victims of every nationality and faith.

We thank all participants who joined us on this moving occasion.
Let us not forget! Never again!
