π§ On 12 June 2026, the new entered into operation, leveraging the shared Biometric Matching Service (sBMS) and key components of the EU interoperability architecture, including the European Search Portal (ESP) and the Common Identity Repository (CIR).
π§ This marks an important milestone in the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum and the wider interoperability framework.
π§ The launch was carried out in close cooperation between eu-LISA, Member States, associated countries and the European Commission, with national systems connecting to the new Eurodac throughout the day.
π§ The new system introduces enhanced biometric capabilities, including facial images, as well as a redesigned architecture that strengthens support for asylum and migration management across Europe.
π¬ "The entry into operation of the new Eurodac demonstrates our shared commitment to delivering secure, reliable and modern digital solutions that support national authorities in carrying out their tasks. It also showcases eu-LISA's growing capability to deliver complex large-scale systems using modern software engineering practices and increased in-house expertise," said Tillmann Keber, Executive Director of eu-LISA.
π§ Built through eu-LISA's Software Factory approach, the new Eurodac is one of the first large-scale EU IT systems delivered using Agile and DevSecOps methodologies combined with increased in-house expertise.
