Just look at this transformation already 🤯🏚️

This has been our biggest project yet, full of the challenges that come with years of neglect and battering from typical Welsh weather 🌧️

BUT the Sustaining a Legacy team have worked miracles on this property so far. It’s been a demanding project and through it’s challenges it has provided volunteers with incredible learning experiences and turned this group into a team.

There’s still a way to go, but once it’s finished it’ll be a quality, safe space for children in care to call home. And that’s worth all the ‘surprises' we’ve encountered.

Projects aren’t only about learning how to use a power drill or tile a bathroom (though these skills really do come in handy!)

It’s about having a space to create a community 💛

Many volunteers join just to meet people, while others joined for skill learning, not expecting to create lasting friendships in the process.

On our most recent Women Construct Wales project, 91% of our volunteers felt better connected to their community by the end.

And that’s what’s so special about supporting or getting involved in projects like these, they're a space create connection within our communities. And imagine if we didn't have that 💔

23 women transformed this empty property over the course of several months…and this hasn’t been a standard project🏠

Led by experienced tutors, the Women Construct Wales team prove what can be done when we work together - just check out this incredible transformation 🤯

With 170,000 people in Wales currently on housing waiting lists, regenerating empty homes isn’t the only challenge we face.

That's 170,000 people without a place to grow roots and build a better future for themselves. This is leaving our communities fractured, and some of the most vulnerable in society in precarious living situations.

We mentioned this project wasn’t a regular one. That’s because this is the beginning of something new and exciting.

Through projects like this one we aim to make an even bigger positive impact that won't only see volunteers upskilled and less empty homes, but also create more social housing for people to have a safe space of their own.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers who gave their all to this project and helped build a future for someone who needs it 💛

One of the best things about working within the community? 💛

It's that we're constantly reminded that people still care.

In their generosity, Knauf UK & Ireland, a global leader in building materials, supported the community by donating an incredible 21 rolls of A1 rated fire-resistant insulation AND 40 insulation slabs to the Sustaining a Legacy project🙌

It's exactly this kind of action that helps strengthen our communities. Because while our volunteers get to grips with installing quality insulation, this donation allows us to redirect resources into creating even more opportunities beyond the project.

20 empty properties transformed into 'home' 🏠

You might think, against the 1.2 million empty homes currently in the UK, this is a small drop in the ocean. But every drop, however small, ripples out and can make all the difference.

Because of their incredible commitment to the community, over the last 10 years our volunteers and tutors have created homes for families, stable bases for young people stepping out into independence and refuges for those fleeing unsafe situations.

And there’s nothing small about that.

20 properties in 10 years…imagine what the next ten years will bring!
