We were delighted to welcome acclaimed Irish indie-folk trio Kingfishr to the Guildhall earlier today ahead of their sold-out performance at Ebrington Square this evening as part of Live at the Square.

The band met with the Mayor during their visit and spent some time with our team, even trying their hand at pulling a pint.

We would like to wish Kingfishr the very best of luck for tonight’s concert and wish everyone attending an enjoyable night at Ebrington Square.

If their gig is as good as their pint pulling, you’re in for a real treat!

It was a real pleasure to welcome the County Cork Pipes and Drums all the way from New York City to the Guildhall today for a special meet and greet with the Mayor of Derry City & Strabane District

The band are fresh from competing in the Fleadh last week, where finishing third in their category as a non-competitive band was quite an achievement, and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to celebrate that success with them here in the Guildhall.

During their visit, the group treated us to a fantastic performance in the Main Hall, enjoyed by those who came across it, before taking a guided tour of our historic venue to learn more about its rich history.

Six years ago today, our city and the world lost one of its greatest peacemakers, the late John Hume.

Here in the Guildhall, we have always been immensely proud of our connection with John and the Hume family over the years. It is a profound honour and a privilege to care for his historic peace prize collection on behalf of the people of this city.

This unique collection, which is on public display in the Guildhall, includes the 1998 Nobel Peace Prize, the Martin Luther King Jr Non-Violent Prize from 1999, and the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Prize from 2001. John remains the only person to have received all three of these distinguished awards.

More than prizes, they represent a lifetime dedicated to dialogue, respect, and the belief he taught us — that difference is an accident of birth and should never be a reason for conflict. That we must learn to spill our sweat together, not our blood.

We were also deeply proud that the Guildhall was the stage for HUME: Beyond Belief; the major musical drama by The Playhouse telling the life and mission of John and Pat Hume, performed live and broadcast from the Guildhall to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. It was a powerful reminder, in the very building he loved, of the man behind the mission, and of Pat's unwavering strength beside him.

His vision of peace lives on in this building, in this city, and in every generation he inspired.

We remember him today with immense pride and gratitude.

Thank you, John.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

The John Hume Peace Prize collection remains on public display in the Guildhall for all to visit and reflect.
