Happy Friday Everyone. It has been a really busy few days for Devon and Cornwall Police and the drone team. We had teams at Boardmasters every day last weekend, two teams flying at PAFC v ECFC on Monday and a team at the British Fireworks Championships in Plymouth Wednesday night and last night. Yesterday afternoon we deployed to Dartmoor to help our friends DSRT Tavistock search for two persons who had become lost walking on the moor. Luckily it was a well intentioned false alarm and the walkers were found after a couple of hours, where they had set up camp for the night. Dartmoor is beautiful at this time of year and is one of the only places in England where you can legally wild camp. We are moving into our busiest time of the year, so if you want to enjoy the moor make a plan, share it with friends and check in with your loved ones - even if it’s a basic rough plan of where you have parked and where you are thinking of camping overnight. Parents | Make your children understand

Tombstoning, the act of jumping from height into water often where diving is prohibited for safety reasons, is not only anti-social, but also extremely dangerous.

20 deaths and 70 serious injuries – some of which were life changing - have been recorded* since 2004.

Inspector Mat Helm spoke today (9 July 2026) from his real experience of groups of children taking part in this reckless activity in Exmouth: “At some point this is going to lead to a funeral from drowning, impact, propeller encounter or underwater obstruction. I have seen more than my fair share of dead kids. It’s not nice. Don't let that be your family. Take some responsibility for your kids.”

We are asking all parents to know where their children are this summer. We are asking them to talk to them about the dangers of tombstoning and why they should not do it.

The main dangers are:

• Hazards hidden under the water – such as boat propellors, rock, debris
• Water being too shallow so that jumpers impact the bottom, risking severe neck or spine injury
• Cold water shock – this can incapacitate and result in drowning

Tombstoning is not worth the risk for children or adults. It’s even more risky if alcohol is involved.
