Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC). The GFC is responsible for advising the subject Minister on issues relating to forest policy, forestry laws and regulations.

The Commission is also responsible for the administration and management of all State Forest land. The work of the Commission is guided by a Draft National Forest Plan that has been developed to address the forest policy. The Commission develops and monitors standards for forest sector operations, develops and implements forest protection and conservation strategies, oversees forest research and provides support and guidance to forest education and training. See departments for a list of departments in the GFC. The GFC is governed by a board of directors appointed by the President. The board is responsible for the performance of the functions conferred on the Commission by the Act.

Tomorrow, the 2nd Global Biodiversity Alliance Conference begins.

On 30 and 31 October, the focus will be Investing in Nature: Accelerating Biodiversity Finance for Sustainable Development.

The themes connect leadership and international cooperation with country readiness, economic policy, trusted biodiversity information and practical financing partnerships. Across these discussions, a central question is how finance can support conservation and country-led development while respecting community rights and priorities.

How can funding reach conservation programmes and the people carrying them out?

With two days to go, we are exploring financing and delivery. The 2nd GBA Conference will examine how public, private, development and philanthropic capital can contribute, and how funding mechanisms and partnerships can support practical action.

The conversation will also consider safeguards, measurable outcomes and equitable benefit-sharing, including access for community-level implementers.
