The inaugural African Air Transport Convention & Expo has opened in Lomé, bringing together three Heads of State, including H.E. Paul Kagame of Rwanda, H.E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, and the host President of the Council of Togo, alongside 20 African Ministers of Transport and key aviation stakeholders.

In his address, President Paul Kagame emphasized the urgency of fully implementing the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), highlighting that stronger connectivity is key to driving trade, tourism, and economic integration across Africa.

The Executive Director of the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) also participated in the high-level forum, contributing to continental discussions on aviation reform and sustainable air transport development.

The Convention marks a significant step in advancing Africa’s aviation agenda, with strong political commitment reflected in its unprecedented level of participation.

The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is currently hosting a study visit from Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), Tanzania, taking place from 15–19 June 2026, focused on airport wildlife and livestock management in relation to aviation safety.

The programme includes a series of technical engagements and site visits aimed at knowledge exchange on critical areas such as wildlife hazard management systems, coordination between aviation and environmental authorities, use of technology in surveillance, perimeter security, and regulatory frameworks supporting safe airport operations in wildlife-prone environments.

Key engagements include technical sessions with the Namibia Airports Company (NAC), the Ministry of Environment, Forestry & Tourism, as well as industry stakeholders, alongside airport visits to observe best practices in action.

This initiative strengthens regional cooperation and supports continuous improvement in aviation safety, environmental management, and operational excellence across African airports.

The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has successfully concluded its 6th In-House Safety and Quality Training Programme course, Resolution of Safety Concerns, which was held from 8–12 June 2026.

Facilitated by the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA), the training arm of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the course equipped NCAA personnel with enhanced knowledge and practical skills to identify, assess, and effectively resolve aviation safety concerns.

The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) hosted its Board Handover and Induction Ceremony on 4 June 2026, marking an important governance transition for Namibia’s civil aviation sector.
The NCAA officially welcomed its newly appointed Board of Directors, comprising Mr. Sam Nekaro, Mr. Edson Isaaks, Ms. Martha Hitenanye (Deputy Chairperson), Ms. Loide Shaparara (Chairperson), Mr. Edward Kafita, and Dr. John Shimameni, alongside Executive Director Ms. Toska Sem.

The NCAA extends its sincere appreciation to the outgoing Board for its dedicated service and invaluable contributions to strengthening governance and regulatory oversight. The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is currently conducting its In-House Safety and Quality Training Programme, with the fifth of twelve planned courses taking place from 1–5 June 2026.
This week's course focuses on the Surveillance of Service Providers, a critical component of aviation safety oversight that equips inspectors and technical personnel with the knowledge and skills required to effectively monitor compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
The training forms part of the NCAA's ongoing commitment to strengthening regulatory oversight capabilities, enhancing staff competencies, and maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety, security, and quality within Namibia's civil aviation sector.
