New Leadership for the National Youth Service!

Today, 14 September 2026, the Honourable Dr. Sanet Steenkamp, Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, officially inaugurated the new nine-member Board of the National Youth Service (NYS).

The Board, appointed for a three-year term effective 1 July 2026, is entrusted with providing strategic direction, strong governance, and policy oversight to advance the Service’s mandate of youth development across Namibia.

Welcoming the new Board, NYS Commissioner Dr. Felix Musukubili expressed confidence that the new Board will usher in a renewed era of strategic growth, strengthened governance, transparency and enhanced service delivery.

Addressing the Board, Minister Steenkamp underscored the importance of institutional integrity, sound financial management and measurable results. She identified INCLUSION, INNOVATION, and IMPACT as three (3) key principles to guide the Board’s tenure and shape the strategic direction of the Service.

Highlighting that approximately 18,000 applications were received for the 17th Intake of National Service Training, the Minister noted that the overwhelming demand calls for a strategic review of the Service’s capacity, infrastructure and funding models. She further called on the Board to review the National Youth Service Act, 2005 (Act No. 6 of 2005) to ensure that the legislative framework remains relevant and responsive to today’s youth and Namibia’s evolving socio-economic landscape.

Board Chairperson Mr. Nicolars Tembwe reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to accountability and tangible impact, stating: "Our measure of success will not be the frequency of our meetings, but the tangible, positive impact the Service will deliver in the lives of Namibian youth."

The Service looks forward to a new chapter of growth and results-driven leadership under the newly appointed Board.

📢 Call-Up Instruction for Special Deployment Opportunity 📢

The National Youth Service (NYS) hereby calls on recruits who are currently not employed, studying, training, or engaged in the Youth Security Service (YSS) to submit their CVs, copies of IDs and National Service Training/Civic Certificates for consideration for a paid special deployment opportunity across Namibia.

📍 Reporting dates: 15–18 September 2026 as per the indicated towns
🕗 Reporting time: 08H00–12H00 on all indicated days

NB: Recruits should report with their writing pens and be dressed in Physical Training (PT)
