Please be aware that there is a duathalon in and around Orton Bradley Park on Sunday, September 13 from 9am. The Canterbury Triathlon Club is running the duathlon from Orton Bradley Park with cyclists riding between Orton Bradley and Allandale. Please be extremely careful if you are heading that way between 9-11am, ideally avoid driving on the roads between these times.

As a working farm, we need to give our lambs the best start possible for life. This weekend is the last before Lambing Season restricts access to four of our popular tracks.
Waterfall Gully Track - closed from August 17th to October 16th.
Magnificent Gully Track - closed from August 17th to October 16th.
Hunter's Gully Track - closed from August 17th to October 16th.
Tablelands Loop Track - closed from August 17th to October 16th.
Faulkners Track (to Packhorse Hut) is currently closed due to slips.

They all go through paddocks where lambs will be. All the other tracks are open this year including Matai (Mt Herbert) Track and Big Rock.

Lambing Season starts Monday, 17th August to give our lambs the best start possible. 4 of our popular tracks will be closed; the Waterfall track; Magnificent Gully track; Hunters' Gully track; Tablelands Loop track. Packhorse Hut/Gebbies Pass access is closed due to slips. You can still access Mt Herbert, Big Rock and Te Ahu Patiki. Most tracks on Banks Peninsula are through private land. Check if the track is closed BEFORE you start. Check DOC and CCC for other tracks closed for Lambiing Season.

Te Wharau Stream’s native fish survive major flood in Orton Bradley Park.
After heavy rainfall left parts of Banks Peninsula badly flooded in February, biodiversity experts feared the worst for native critters and fish in Te Wharau Stream, which flows through Te Ahu Pātiki and Orton Bradley Park.
On 20 January, shortly before the flood, Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust staff tested environmental DNA (eDNA), genetic material shed by organisms into their surroundings, at two locations along the stream and found a wide range of fish, invertebrates and birds in and around it.
The flooding event on 16 February created slips, gouged out the stream banks and washed a huge amount of debris downstream. Locals and ecologists thought that a lot of the species recently found living in the stream would be dead or washed away.
When eDNA was tested again at the same two sites after the flood on 19 March, the findings showed that, against all odds, a number of the stream's precious residents likely survived, swam upstream or were able to find refuge during the flood event. Whaka-Ora Healthy Harbour programme manager Sarah Wilson said, “beyond all our wildest dreams, many critters survived the deluge.”
