The National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) Philippines just held its 3rd Steering Board Meeting, uniting government, private sector, civil society, academia, and development partners to push forward the National Plastic Action Roadmap.

Plastic pollution cannot be solved by one sector alone—NPAP builds consensus, makes collective decisions, and turns ambition into coordinated action. With the Roadmap set to launch soon, the focus now is on commitment and translating this shared direction into real solutions.

The DENR‑ERDB, together with the National Biotechnology Week Inter‑Agency Steering Committee, will unveil the beta version of the Pinoy Biotech Hub during the 22nd NBW celebration on September 21–24 at the DENR Central Office, Quezon City.

This digital platform will serve as a centralized repository of Filipino biotechnology innovations, bridging the gap between scientific research and the public. The launch coincides with the annual Enviotech Forum, showcasing biotech applications in soil restoration, wastewater treatment, and natural pest control.

With the theme “Biotek para sa Kinabukasan: Kalikasan, Kalusugan, Kagandahan, Kabuhayan, at Kaunlaran,” NBW 2026 highlights biotechnology’s role in environmental protection, health, food security, livelihoods, and national progress. Activities include exhibits, forums, youth competitions, and technology pitching sessions, bringing together scientists, students, industry leaders, and communities.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻: 𝗭𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮’𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝗺𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗺

Planted over two decades ago, the Bambusetum at Canucutan, Pasonanca Natural Park in Zamboanga City has grown into a living legacy of resilience and sustainability. Established in 2001 by DENR‑ERDS Region IX, the one‑hectare site now hosts 10 bamboo species—from kawayan tinik to giant botong—serving as a hub for conservation, research, ecotourism, and environmental education.

Bamboo, a giant grass, is more than just a renewable material. It stabilizes soil, stores carbon, supports biodiversity, and provides livelihoods. The Bambusetum has welcomed students, researchers, advocates, and communities, becoming a center for learning and a reminder that what we plant today can benefit generations we may never meet.

With continued support from DENR leaders and partners, the Bambusetum is envisioned to evolve into a Bamboo Forest, highlighting bamboo’s ecological, economic, and cultural importance.

𝗖𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝟭𝟮 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲𝗱

Two residents of Barangay Sinkatulan, Makilala, Cotabato voluntarily turned over 12 rescued wildlife species to the DENR on September 10, showing how community awareness and cooperation are strengthening wildlife protection.

Among the rescued species were Philippine Palm Civets, Philippine Ducks, White‑eared Brown Doves, Spotted Doves, and a juvenile White‑breasted Waterhen. After veterinary checks, most were released back into their natural habitat, while others remain under observation at the PENRO Cotabato rescue center.

This action highlights the growing commitment of local communities to uphold RA 9147 (Wildlife Act) and protect biodiversity. Cotabato residents set an inspiring example—proving that reporting and turning over rescued wildlife is the right step to safeguard our environment.

BAN Toxics, through the HCWM Project’s Toxics‑Free and Waste‑Free Schools Program, has turned over new learning modules on proper waste management and toxic chemicals to Payatas B Elementary School in Quezon City.

With the help of teachers and the HCWM Project mascot Nurse Susie, the modules empower Grade 5 and 6 students to reduce single‑use plastics, manage healthcare waste responsibly, and protect communities from hazardous substances like mercury, lead, and uPOPs.

𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗥 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲: 𝟱𝟱 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱, 𝟯𝟯𝟵 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱

From January to August 2026, the DENR conducted 71 enforcement operations, leading to the arrest of 55 illegal wildlife traders and the confiscation of 339 wild animals, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, and rare exotic species.

Secretary Juan Miguel “Mitch” Cuna emphasized that wildlife protection requires sustained enforcement and public cooperation. The agency continues to work with the PNP, BOC, LGUs, and other partners to stop poaching and trafficking under RA 9147 (Wildlife Act).

The crackdown highlights the urgent need to protect biodiversity and prevent the exploitation of endangered species across the country.
