A delegation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), led by Dr. Pawin Padungtod, One Health Team Lead, along with Dr. Ehtisham Khan, One Health Coordinator, and Dr. M. Armaghan Shahzad, Laboratory Associate, visited the office of Dr. Mohsin Farooque, Chief Conservator Wildlife, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The objective of the meeting was to share the collaborative activity plan under the Pakistan Pandemic Fund Project, including the establishment of a Wildlife Disease Surveillance Unit at Peshawar Zoo, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Adviser to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Appreciates Peshawar Wildlife Staff for Effective Enforcement.
The Adviser to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pir Musavir khan Ghazi, awarded appreciation certificates and cash rewards to the staff of Peshawar Wildlife Division in recognition of their dedicated services, vigilance, and effective enforcement of wildlife laws, particularly their efforts to curb the illegal trapping, transportation, and trade of Falcon species.
The Adviser appreciated the commitment, professionalism, and outstanding performance of the field staff and acknowledged their valuable contribution towards the protection and conservation of precious wildlife resources and biodiversity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Adviser emphasized that effective enforcement, timely action, and continuous field-level vigilance are essential to combat illegal wildlife trade and ensure the conservation, protection, and sustainable management of the province's valuable wildlife resources.
He further encouraged the staff of Peshawar Wildlife Division to continue their efforts with the same dedication and professionalism and to further strengthen enforcement measures for the protection of wildlife and biodiversity across the province.

ADVISOR TO THE CHIEF MINISTER RELEASES 12 CONFISCATED FALCONS INTO THEIR NATURAL HABITAT
The Worthy Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pir Musavir Khan Ghazi, today released 12 confiscated falcons into their natural habitat, marking an important step towards the restoration of wild falcon populations, maintenance of ecological balance and preservation of the natural food chain.

The Conservator Wildlife Central Circle, M. Israr, briefed the Worthy Minister that the falcons had been confiscated on 10 September 2026 at approximately 5:30 PM by the Wildlife staff deputed at the Peshawar Motorway Toll Plaza. The birds were recovered from a Daewoo bus bearing registration No. FSJ-444 during an enforcement operation.

The successful operation was conducted on the directions of the DFO Wildlife Peshawar, Mrs. Manahil Wahab, as part of intensified efforts to curb the illegal trapping, transportation and trade of protected wildlife species.

The Worthy Minister highly appreciated the vigilance, dedication and effective enforcement efforts of the Wildlife field staff. He emphasized that the protection and restoration of wildlife populations are essential for maintaining biodiversity, ecological balance and healthy natural food chains, while also contributing to broader efforts to address environmental degradation and climate-related challenges.

In recognition of the outstanding performance of the field staff, the Worthy Minister distributed appreciation certificates and awarded cash rewards from his personal funds, encouraging the officials to continue their dedicated efforts for the protection and conservation of wildlife.

The Worthy Minister further directed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department should continue to strengthen enforcement of wildlife laws, prevent illegal wildlife trade, restore wildlife populations and safeguard the province’s precious biodiversity and natural heritage.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department reiterates its commitment to protecting wildlife, conserving biodiversity and ensuring effective enforcement of wildlife laws throughout the province.

A panel discussion on “Protection, Conservation and Sustainable Management of Wildlife & Biodiversity Resources through Effective Community Participation in the Merged Districts” was broadcast today from Radio Pakistan, Peshawar Centre under the Merged Areas Integrated Development – Forestry Sector Wildlife Component Project (MAIP), KP Wildlife Department.
The expert panel comprising Abdul Haleem (MAIP Project), Muhammad Fiaz, DFO Wildlife Khyber Division, and Muhammad Rafiq, Social Organizer (MAIP Project) highlighted the geographical, historical and ecological significance of Khyber Wildlife Division, with particular emphasis on the rich wildlife and biodiversity resources of the region.
The speakers emphasized that meaningful community participation, awareness, responsible use of natural resources and sustainable livelihood opportunities are essential for the effective protection and conservation of wildlife and biodiversity.
The discussion also focused on promoting community-based conservation, reducing pressure on natural resources, strengthening local stewardship, and utilizing wildlife resources on a sustainable basis to support community livelihoods while addressing the growing challenges of climate change.
