📌 Day 2 Highlights | Regional Capacity Building Workshop
“Driving Clean Energy Innovation: Strategic Policy Pathways and Market Integration in Thailand and Beyond”
On 22 July 2026, the Energy Research Institute (ERI), Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES), National University of Singapore, successfully concluded the second day of the Regional Capacity Building Workshop, focusing on sustainable mobility, electric vehicle (EV) transition, and cross-sector policy coordination.
The discussions brought together experts from academia, industry, and policy communities to exchange perspectives on the future of the automotive industry and the evolving EV ecosystem in Thailand and the region.
Key topics included:
⚡ The transformation of the automotive industry amid the global EV transition and its implications for industrial competitiveness and localization.
⚡ Thailand's EV market development, recent policy progress, charging infrastructure expansion, and ecosystem readiness.
⚡ The importance of workforce transition, talent development, standards, and enabling ecosystems to support long-term EV growth.
⚡ International experiences from China and Singapore, highlighting how policy support, market mechanisms, and infrastructure development can accelerate EV adoption.
⚡ Comparative insights into EV policy coordination in Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, emphasizing the trade-offs between policy coherence, agility, and industrial strategy.
A recurring theme throughout the discussions was the importance of localization and domestic value creation. Participants highlighted the need to ensure that growing EV investments translate into stronger local supply chains, technology transfer, industrial upgrading, and workforce opportunities, enabling ASEAN countries to capture greater long-term benefits from the energy transition.
🙏 ERI would like to express our sincere appreciation to all distinguished speakers, participants, and partners for their valuable contributions and active engagement throughout the workshop.
