Seeking asylum is a human and legal right. The actions from Border Patrol agents rounding up Haitian immigrants on horseback at the US-Mexico border are appalling. First 5 Alameda County wholeheartedly refutes policies that threaten, separate, and detain families—including denying the right to safety. We must protect Haitian migrants and others seeking safety with dignity and humanity. We urge the Biden administration to immediately stop all deportations to Haiti and end all harmful policies that prevent individuals and families from their right to seek asylum. New Data Shows Early Educators Equipped to Teach TK - Center for the Study of Child Care Employment

As CA makes moves to expand TK, @CSCCEUCB's new data brief demonstrates that California has thousands of early educators, most of whom are women of color, in the existing early care and education (ECE) system that are well-positioned to fill new TK jobs.

Read key findings here:

California is moving quickly to transform transitional kindergarten (TK) into a universal preschool program to be available to all four-year-olds in the state by 2025 (California Legislative Information, 2021b). This will create the need for as many as 8,000 to 11,000 additional lead TK teachers. In...

The arrival of a new baby is a thrilling time. Yet, we only have to look at the data to see that not all families in the Bay Area are having positive experiences. Black babies in the Bay Area are two to three times more likely to be born too soon or too small, or to die before their first birthday. Bay Area, we can change this! Here's what you need to know about the new stimulus child tax credit

Starting tomorrow! The new Child Tax Credit payments will automatically begin rolling out through the end of the year. If your household’s annual income is below $75k, you will automatically qualify. “The child tax credit will give eligible parents a total of $3,600 for each child under 6 and $3,000 for each child under age 18 for 2021.” Learn more:

The $1.9 trillion relief package signed by President Joe Biden greatly enhances the federal child tax credit for one year, allowing millions more families to benefit and lifting millions of children out of poverty.

New child tax credit payments start this week. Here's how the IRS is trying to make sure the neediest families don't miss out

Good news for American families! The new Child Tax Credit payments will begin this Thursday, July 15th and run through the end of the year. “Roughly 39 million households, covering 88% of children, will start receiving the monthly payments automatically.” Read more about the child tax credit: http://buff.ly/3yIGf4K

Melinda Williams, a married mother of five, didn't think her family qualified for the child tax credit since they don't earn enough to file income tax returns. So the New York City resident didn't pay much attention to Congress' historic increase of the benefit earlier this year.

When Science meets Intuition, children excel... Part one of a two part educational podcast that illuminates how raising children is easy when we know about brain. What's wrong with my child? Why isn't she like her sibling? Parents are often challenged to understand how one child can be so very different than the next. Genetics, epi-genetics and sibling rivalry... it's not easy being a parent today. Part One of a Two-Part series on children and learning is in this podcast with Dr. Kieran.
