INSIDE OUR NETWORK: Another group of community partners we want to highlight is businesses in Anacortes' all-important tourism field. It's gratifying that these employers are confident in our clients as employees and ready to put them to work serving visitors to town.

In this way, AFC residents and graduates can become one of the faces of Anacortes!

These partners are: Cap Sante Inn, Majestic Inn & Spa, and the Swinomish Casino. Thanks so much to all three of you!

YEARS LATER: CHANTAL'S STORY AFTER AFC
I am honored to write the story of former Family Center participant and dear friend, Chantal Pelletier โ€“ now a thriving Anacortes businesswoman who never hesitates to show up for others. In fact, after my mother passed away this spring, Chantal helped me sort through belongings and run a garage sale - always arriving with snacks and compassion.

What I didn't know was that, at 21 and pregnant, Chantal once came to the Family Center looking for something most of us take for granted: a safe place to live.

After being kicked out of her home as a teenager, she stayed with friends, then spent years couch-surfing before learning she was expecting her daughter. At the same time, she was being stalked, so safety
became her top priority. The Family Center provided the secure housing and support she needed to prepare for motherhood and begin building a stable future.

Years later, Chantal turned a few pop-ups into the beloved Chilly Rain Retro vintage shop in downtown Anacortes, where she now helps other
women rediscover their confidence.

Looking back, she says, โ€œAt this point, I feel like everything that I've gone through, if I can help other women and guide them into a better situation, and a more self-confident situation, that is all for a reason,โ€ she says.

Chantal's story is a powerful reminder that the women who come through the Family Center's doors are not defined by the challenges they're facing. Given safety, support, and opportunity, they can build extraordinary futures - and often become the ones who lift others up along the way.

SUMMER FAMILY FUN: The AFC campus was filled with bright sunshine, family fun, and yummy food on August 25 for our annual Family BBQ. It was a lovely evening that gave families a chance to slow down, share a meal, and connect with one another in a laid-back environment.

Families enjoyed a classic BBQ complete with burgers, hot dogs, tasty sides, and desserts, all donated by generous supporters. Help Me Grow - Skagit Family Resource Center brought their Diaper Van for families to take advantage of free diapers and other supplies, and the Children's Museum of Skagit County shared their resources, while the children participated in fun activities.

Events like this rely entirely on the kindness of community members. We extend our sincere gratitude to the donors who made the BBQ possible and the dedicated volunteers who gave their time to set up tables, manage the grill, serve food, and help clean up. Our families wouldn't have been able to enjoy this wonderful evening without your generosity.

A HUGE THANK YOU! We are incredibly grateful to Rosario Assisted Living and Executive Director Tom Brooks for their generous donation of used computers and laptops to AFC!

Rosario Assisted Living is in the process of replacing all of the computers and laptops at their facility, and Tom generously offered their used equipment to AFC.

For many of our clients, access to a computer isnโ€™t a given. Our common-space computers are outdated, yet technology is essential for resume writing, job searches, life skills classes, applications, and so much more.

This generous donation means better technology, more opportunities, and greater independence for the people we serve.

Thank you, Tom Brooks and the entire Rosario Assisted Living team, for turning your technology upgrade into an opportunity for our clients! Your generosity will have a lasting impact.

DID YOU KNOW WHAT IT TAKES to get to an appointment, a job interview, or a housing resource?

For many of us, hopping in the car to run an errand or head off-island is second nature. Itโ€™s something easy to take for granted. But for many of our clients, lack of transportation is one of the biggest hurdles they face.

Even getting from Point A to Point B right here within Anacortes can be incredibly challenging and time-consuming without a ride. Off-island resources, like specialized medical care, housing assistance, and employment opportunities, can feel entirely out of reach. Transportation isn't just a convenience; it is a literal lifeline.

Thatโ€™s why community support means the world to us. After seeing one of our recent posts about this issue, Barbara Kinnison donated two bicycles to the Anacortes Family Center for our clients!

We are so grateful! First, because it means our posts are reaching caring hearts, but more importantly, because people like Barbara truly take these needs to heart. To Barbara, and to all our incredible donors who respond to our calls to action: thank you. You aren't just giving a ride or a bike; you are opening doors and making a direct, life-changing difference. ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿ’™

We were thrilled to connect with local families at the Anacortes Schools Foundationโ€™s Ready to Learn Fair this past Saturday! ๐ŸŽ’โœจ

Hosting a resource table alongside so many of our amazing local partners was a great reminder of what we can achieve when our community works together.

Thank you to the Anacortes Schools Foundation for putting on such a fantastic event, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello. Hereโ€™s to a great school year ahead! ๐Ÿ’™

HAPPY NATIONAL NONPROFIT DAY
Today, the Anacortes Family Center wants to give a massive shoutout to all the incredible nonprofits in our community.

Building a thriving, healthy, and resilient community takes a village, and we are so grateful to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with so many dedicated organizations. Together, we fill critical gaps, lift up our neighbors, and create lasting change!

Did you know? National Nonprofit Day was founded by advocate Sherita J. Herring to honor the vital contributions of the sector. The date traces back to the Tariff Act of 1894, which established the very first federal tax exemptions for charitable groups, laying the groundwork for the 1.5 million+ nonprofits serving our nation today in housing, education, healthcare, the arts, and beyond.

TO OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS: Have you collaborated with AFC? Whether weโ€™ve shared resources, co-hosted events, cross-referred clients, or exchanged donations, we want to thank and celebrate YOU!
Drop your organization's name in the comments below, tag your page, and let us know how weโ€™ve worked together. Letโ€™s show everyone the power of community collaboration! โค๏ธ

SHARING IS CARING๐Ÿ’™
August and Andy Ayers decided it was time to share their play kitchen, and they chose to donate it to AFC!

When we asked if we could share their story, they were very adamant that we do because they want other kids to be inspired to share their toys, too. We absolutely love that!

Thank you, August & Andy, for showing us that youโ€™re never too young to give back. ๐Ÿ’™

This has been a week of thank-yous for us! We are just so incredibly grateful for our amazing community!
